Default Fuel rail covers

Posted this in the Paint and Body forum but had no replies. Can I paint the fuel rail covers that came on my car? Or is their a reason that this cannot be done? I see the adds to purchase the different color fuel rail covers, surge tank, and window washer solvent tops. I would like to color match these and would rather just paint what I have. Yes, No?? Any info would be great
Thanks in advance.

I sanded mine with my pneumatic random orbital sander and got them smooth enough to where the first coat of primer made them smooth as a baby's behind. I primered them and sanded a couple more times after that then gave them a few coats of base color and cleared them with a few more coats. I wet-sanded between coats. Finally, I sanded them with increasingly finer sand paper and finished up with 2000 grit and polish.

Unsanded

One unsanded and one sanded

Both sanded

Primer applied

Color coat

Cleared

Polished and then I applied the acrylic letters

They can be painted and look really good either body color or a complementary color. Best of luck if you go for it.

You can also use build up primer to help

Also, any cracking with them flexing or heat?

No cracking but I used primer with a flex agent built in and high-temp engine paint on the base and clear.

I primed and painted mine all with a rattle can and they came out looking pretty good.

His post says he applied acrylic letters. I assume they were already black.

You can use plasti-dip on them but you have to scrub them good with dish soap to get any grease and oils off or it wont stick. Seems to hold up to the engine bay heat just fine, and you can always pull it off later if you want to change it.

I used engine paint and clear coat; white with black lettering. They looked pretty decent at first, but after about a week and before they even got in the engine bay, the white started to "yellow". And they've gotten much worse than the pic below.

This next off season I plan on re-doing them, and would appreciate one of those excellent Patches Tutorials!

Good idea on the flex primer. Stay with automotive paint. I had my first attempt bubble up after awhile.
