Default Date C5's changed from paper to carbon blockers?

Anyone know specifically when that occurred? Can't find it in a search but I'd heard it was the 2000 model. If it was the 2000 car they must start building them some time in 1999 but I don't know when they switch over.

I have a 99 manual trans built in June and wonder if that could possibly have carbon blockers in the trans or is this specific to Chevy switching from one brand of trans to another rather than changing the blockers from paper to carbon in the trans they had been using all along?

Appreciate any solid info.

I don't have any solid info for you but I've used Amsoil Torque Drive in my '98 for 6 years and over 100k miles. It still shifts like butter. Amsoil is compatible with the paper blockers if you got 'em and still great if you don't.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, synthetic and the paper blockers is my concern. I have 4 qts of Amsoil Multi Vehicle synthetic ATF ready to go in and thought I'd review. I got the atf from a dealer in St. Pete, Fl and they are a big vette shop but it never hurts to ask around.

Any reason you use the Torque Drive rather than the Multi Vehicle? I'm not familiar with the specific properties/benefits of either other than quality and expected smoother shifting. I hope so.

From what I read, Tremec have approved and recommend Mobil 1 synthetic ATF for all T56's regardless of whether you have paper blockers or not.

Tremec started using carbon blockers on 2001. I have never seen carbon blockers on 2000 models no matter when the car was assembled.

We use carbon blockers. I don't know what Tremec was thinking when they decided to use PAPER as friction material.

Nice! I always wondered about that paper thing. What oil do you guys recommend for lubrication? For the ops car (1999) and mine (2003)?

Unless it's an all out track car, we recommend GM 88861800.

I was amazed when I found out they used paper blockers in the trans after I got my 1999 coupe. But its never been an issue. over 200k on the stock trans and no issues. Shifts in gear like butter every time using the factory fill.
