On a previous thread I told about the work it took to R&R my A/C compressor which involved removing my supercharger. Anyway, it was warrantied by the auto parts store and I remembered they wanted me to flush the system and also R&R the evaporator/dryer so it was something I knew to do to keep the warranty for 2 years. But never did they require the Condenser to be replaced, hence the flush kit. BUT I decided to youtube to see about flushing the condenser cause I suspected contamination from the original condenser made the new A/C compressor fail. BINGO.....I learned a lot and now know the reason for the failure. I installed a NEW condenser and complete A/C system so I hope to never have it fail again(at least for a number of years) LESSON LEARNED!

Now I have ICE COLD AIR!

wow, Interesting… so basically if you have a compressor go bad you really need to replace the rest of the system at the same time you replace the compressor.

Yes....I used to think why spend all that money and how silly it was for the repair shops to charge soo much for a simple a/c compressor job. I even worked at the dealerships and wouldn't listen to the A/C technicians and thought it was just a way to inflate the profits. But after trying to keep the costs down and doing it myself...I learned a valuable lesson from being cheap and just doing the minimum. NOW I realize the error of my way and seen the actual costs of doing the least I could.

I still did all the work and charged my own system......but did it the right way and replaced ALL the components so no contamination destroys the new compressor. Use the Flush kit to clean out your A/C lines.



So remember,

A/C Compressor
Dryer/Evaporator
Condenser
Orifice tube
Flush Kit
2 cans Freon
1 can Pag 150 oil

= ICE COLD AIR!

It's going to run about $600-$800(Oreilly Auto Parts) for parts alone...toss in a few hours of labor which should push it to $1000 or abouts!

Rick... try to add my cliché` to all of your projects. "I can't afford to 'do' or ' buy' anything cheap ". There is only one correct way to do a job. Cheap and Correct are not synonymous.
You are already saving money by doing the job yourself.

Nothing like doing it right the first time and counting the money you save from not having to do it again. Actually I would have thought it would have cost quite a bit more than that to replace everything.

Absolutly... IM here to help, and offer lots of good stuff. And on occasion offer some good insider development stuff you wont read in any book. I tell newbies here all the time to be careful who they listen too here.
AS we know there are many knowledgeable people on this forum. There are also many who " think " they know something because they change their own oil and have a few tools. Or their grandfather worked in a gas station in the 50's and that's how he does it.

Guys willing to experiment with alternatives and offer their findings help as long as their findings are honest and they have the ability to know the difference between hype and fact.

For me, I had millions of dollars worth of test equipment and data on areas I was involved with. I laugh sometimes when a guy with a few wire ties and a fender cover tries to compete with GM Factory design engineering.
There are lots of areas of the Corvette I know very little about its development so I don't offer the same expert advice I do in areas that I am an absolute expert.

I once was asked to be an "Expert" on a Federal court in a case of Liability about a vehicle I helped designed, but I refused to be named an "Expert" and would ONLY give testimony on the areas I actually designed.

Oh I would have to do a massive search with help from volunteers to find the rest of the pics sitting in some box ...... sorry!
