Default FRC or Z06

Need a little in put.
I have a budget of $19000 for a C5 Z06, most of the Z06's that I have found in that price range are 01 and 02 models with an average mileage of 75000 and nice mods.
Now comes the kicker.
I found a nice 99 FRC with 94000 mileage with $10K worth of mods done by Abel Racing in OKC for $14K. That leaves me $5K to do other things to it.
So which would you buy?

Depends on the mods for me. Actually I would still go for a z. I've dreamed about z06's since the day i learned about them. An FRC is fantastic, and can easily be made faster than a z06, so if that's what you're after go for it.

If you look long enough and don't get in a hurry a Z in good shape will come up for that price....I'm picking one up tomorrow.

I would go for the 99'. The pre 2001 concerns are not even worth thinking about let alone keep someone from buying one of the thousands on the road with no problems IMO. $5k buy's a LOT of upgrades and 19k miles is not worth the $5k.

not even a question, get the z06

would never consider an FRC, harder to sell and worth a lot less than most people think they are

Personally I would go for a Z06. But doesn't matter what I would do, only what you really feel is the best thing to spend your money on.

Well, if I was in the market, I'd be super interested in a 99-2000 FRC for $10k. Unless all these under $10k cars are ragged out lumps that would cost $10k extra to be street worthy. If anything, in my neck of the woods the Z06 is what is way overpriced for their condition. I saw one one on the local Toyota lot last year, an 03, I would not have traded my 99 on a even swap. Condition is way more important to me than any other consideration.

There is a big difference between a Z and a FRC, I would go for the Z without a doubt.

If your going to leave it stock i would say go for the Z, But if you plan on doing lots of mods then save money buy the FRC and and put the money you save into mods.

Have the best of both worlds. I originally had a z06 and sold it to a local guy. He hydroplaned in it and wrecked it and just so happened I purchased it from a salvage auction. It was going to need a whole front clip. I just so happened to have found a member up in Philadelphia who had a Nassau blue frc that was totally stripped down due to undergoing a custom wide body kit and interior. I ended up buying it, which was just a shell. Long story short, I ended up transferring everything from the nuts and bolts from my z06 into this frc and therefore saving on insurance cost too. With that said, get the one you like. The frc is identical in terms of structure to the z06. While it may not have the driveline the z06 has, you can easily upgrade it to be better if it hasn't been done already. Other than the drive train and suspension components the only thing that differentiates a frc from a z06 is the vin. They are both great cars!

depends on what your plans are for the car, both have the same top, the Z06 will be worth more then the FRC ( non z06) down the road, I would stick with the Z06

it's not uncommon to find 80-90-100k mile FRCs in good shape around 10. finding one that's all stock, garaged and owned by an old man that doesn't beat on it is a bit harder. also harder to do with z06s. most are modded and tracked

these cars are so old, as you say, condition is everything. last thing a guy wants is rattle trap that's leaking oil from various places or worse
