Advertising tip: Don't say "need to get rid of quick".

Say something like "priced for quick sale" or "below book price" or "have to make room" or similar.

Hate to see you have to sell your car, to buy an SUV, but I understand where you're coming from. I was 13 years younger, and a LOT more flexible, when I bought my C-5.....

No kidding. The first line is inviting lowballers to the table.

A GREAT AD and PICTURES sells the car.
Mine was almost 200 miles away. The photos sold the car.
The seller let me drive it to the end of the driveway and up and down his tiny little back woods road... Probably a total of a 1/2 mile. By myself. He pulled the plates so I couldn't take off with it.
Mind you, I had a Car Hauler Truck that I hired and who'd arrived before me, sitting there to take it home for me.
The AD was the BIGGIE for me... Plenty of straight forward descriptions accompanying Very Detail oriented photos.

and scaring people looking for a nice car

post about pics selling is also golden. use a nice cam and get some pics of the car with a nice backdrop. if you can get pics of the underside on a lift as well. almost no one does this and it's a huge selling point

The quickest is take it to a dealer and slug it out. No test rides required. Car max or auto nation come to mind.

I've sold quite a few motorcycles and I don't let anyone test ride them. Chances of them dropping it getting hit or something are just too great for pre sale test ride that being said. You may consider doing what I do with those bikes but with your car. I of course start it up, Rev it up for the prospective buyer. If they ask for test ride/drive I tell them sorry insurance and all I don't want to mess with the issues that come along with an accident or anything I will however give you a 10 minute warranty after we complete the deal. When I have the cash in my hand I'll give you 10 min to take it out and drive it and if it's not what I said it was we'll call the deal off and I'll give you back your money you give me back my bike/car. Never had an issue and people seemed more than understanding to my concerns and being cautious.

Btw a word of advice about dealership test drives from someone in the car business. Don't let your car out of your site when going to any dealership trying to sell. They know if your there to sell and not trade or buy that your anxious to sell. The people that test drive are car guys and they will more than likely be opening it up as soon as they are out of site. If something is going to break they would much rather it happen before they make a deal with you so they are more than likely going to push it a bit and probably a bit more than you woukd be happy with from what it sounds like. Go with them on test drive or send someone with them if you have a difficult time getting in passenger side.

I really don't want to let people test drive it and **** it up. Is it a huge issue to let them 'test ride' it instead?

This statement tells me that you are not ready to sell your c5.

I'm not sure that you are worried about that as much as you are worried about someone driving your baby.

Dude, the car is going to be gone when you sell it. Never to be seen again.

Get over it and move on.

Or .... keep it and forgive yourself for acting like you want to sell it.

No, really. I've had bad experiences with car accidents. The last time the wheelchair wasn't permanent, fortunately.

Though partially, I'm worried about someone damaging it and making it harder to sell, yes.

I got my c5 a few months ago and have let several people drive my car with me in it.

I like to share the Corvette experience.

It's no big deal, you will see.

I'm sorry, I just went back and read this thread again and you have no problems letting someone drive your corvette.

I'm just bored on a Saturday night.

Haha.

biggest risks are

1. accidents, they go on your insurance
2. them missing a shift or some such thing. grinding gears, hitting road debris etc

this is why i never let people test drive my cars, but, i also volunteer for shop inspections, provide leakdown numbers , go over every pro and con and let someone know exactly what they are getting. never really had anyone mind. i also volunteer test rides

I might actually even let the wife finally drive it, now that I'm getting rid of it.

It's a big red flag for me if the seller doesn't allow me to drive it. I would walk away happily unless it was priced so low that I could fix anything that might come up. The seller has the right to say no, I have the right to buy from someone else.
