100mph + tree =bad times
As some of you know I am a LEO in the GREAT state of Alabama. Well myself and co-workers were just involved in a pursuit of a 2004 C5 vert. Unfortunately the driver refused to stop subsequently hitting a tree head on at approximately 100 mph then burst into flames. We were able to successfully get him out of the car and he will survive. Then its jail!!
Thank goodness nobody lost their life during this process. I am unable to post pictures of video since its a violation of my Department Policy and I will not jeopardize my job.
Moral of the story...PLEASE do NOT run from the Police. Even in a better handling more powerful car you still may end up on the losing end.
Its sad to see such a nice C5 destroyed so carelessly!

The idiot behind the wheel of that Vette is lucky to be alive. Stupid decisions can have very serious outcomes. Glad no one else was injured.

Some of us seem to have to learn the hard way. I hope he is ok and I'm sure he will never do it again.
Running from the cops now days is not an option, things have changed!
I guess this also proves how well our Vettes are enginered. I have never seen any car take down a tree yet.

Thank you for doing your duty!
I know you cannot post photos. Curious, how does the C5 hold up in such a collision versus other vehicles in similar crashes?

Absolute STUPIDITY on the part of the person being persued. All you have to do is stop when you see the lights come on the patrol vehicle. Then there is no pursuit.
There is NO justification for attempting to evade the police. None.
Had this fool run into another vehicle or pedestrian you can be assured he/she would have blamed the police for causing him/her to run from them. And the ambulance chasers would have been right there with the driver and initiating a lawsuit against the PD.

I'm just curious what precipitated the pursuit. As you say, there's no justification for evading law enforcement, but there are protocols for law enforcement to follow to continue a chase.

Agreed. During my career as a LEO I had to break off pursuit on more than one occasion due to school zones, traffic conditions, etc. Strictly in the name of public safety. Even though law enforcement may discontinue pursuit the evading party sometimes doesn't realize it or just doesn't care and continues in reckless behavior. My experience is that if the offender wrecks and survives they still attempt to place blame on the pursuit.

The pursuit was initiated because he was the suspect in a shooting. He will be ok but he does have a severely broken leg. The C5 held up rather well in my opinion. He is lucky we were there to get him out of the burning car. It was early morning and there was no traffic out at all.
Thanks to all for the kind words and thanking me for my service. It means a LOT.

He must have been a bad driver coupled with missing gray matter as well.
100 mph in a well maintained Vette is like driving 55 in a normal family type sedan.
Not making excuses for the suspect, just saying.
See it all the time though. People buy motorcycles and high performance cars all the time without experience driving either. Then they attempt to drive like they have been doing it for years. The natural outome for these types is hospital time, disability, or death.
