Default Tire dilemma (not your normal tire thread)

So about 1500 miles ago I bought some Nitto NT05 tires for the rear of my 2002 C5 Z06. I am now ready to buy the fronts in 275/40/17 but everywhere is out of stock (I know, I know, I should have bought them all at once). Soo...the NT05 is out of stock and back ordered until further notice (could be awhile). However, I need the tires as soon as possible.

What would you guys do in my shoes? I'm afraid that putting a different tire on the front will throw off the balance of the car for autocross & roadcourse events. I'd rather not buy 4 new tires either since the NT05s in the rear only have a little mileage on them. Any thoughts?

Any chance of your tire dealer doing a search to see if they are in stock at a different store rather than just checking the warehouse/distributuion centers?

Did you try ebay? Just did a search and there were a couple listings for this tire saying they were available. Im running them up front and stock size in the rear, great tires for the money

are the star specs in 265 40 17 still available? that compound is similar to the nt05

the falken 615 is also available is 275 40 17

either of those is a close match to the nt05

however

i suggest waiting for a matching set, if you have to, get one of those above tires

have you tried summit racing for the nt05? they have their own warehouses and don't always pull on national stock

Yeah, next time order a full set...I'm running NT05's all the way around and think they are pretty darn good tires for the $. Good luck finding the fronts.

Dunlop ZII compound is a lot more stickier than NT05.
I think the problem is the sidewall stiffness and treadblock flex, not the actual compound.
Having different sidewall stiffness front and back will feel like both axle are disconnected.

Here, problem solved the place you least expected to buy tires from
Amazon.com

Summit has 2 left. Discount Tire actually has 10 (well, 8 now that I ordered mine) despite being out of stock on site.

That Amazon link doesn't have any, despite saying they do.

thanks for the replies guys! When I started this thread discount tire did not have any and the sales rep told me it could be months before they got more in stock. I called around and the only place that had them was Summit Racing. They had two but at different warehouses. lol.

I ended up getting them from Summit. They even price matched discount tires price.

The rep at Discount Tire screwed me. He was referring to NT05R's. You got the ones at Summit I was originally going to buy. Lucky!
