2004 Magnesium wheels - worth?
I just bought a set of magnesium wheels that came off of a 28K miles 2004 coupe.
The owner didn't like the color of the wheels, so they replaced them with repo chrome wheels. They also didn't know the wheels were magnesium.
My 2004 Millennium Yellow convertible has magnesium wheels on it, and I would like to find a nice set of factory chrome wheels or painted 2003 anniversary wheels.
So, what are a nice set of magnesium wheels worth? They have the usual minor paint chips where the tires were dismounted. Includes center caps but no TPMS sensors.
Could these be traded for a nice set of factory chrome wheels or 2003 anniversary wheels?
Thoughts?

You guys are right, prices are all over the place.
I am watching that set on Ebay that are sitting at $305 with 4 hours left on the auction. I am curious what they finally end up selling for.

Two of those wheels look like crap and the other two look almost perfect. It should be interesting.

By 2004, the magnesium wheels were about a $1K option, but to buy a set over the parts counter they would be much, much higher. If the wheels were in absolutely mint shape, I could see them going for $600-700 bucks. With chips in the finish, then obviously I would think they would be valued less than that amount.

The prices are all over the place.
A couple years ago I sold a set (with bad tires) for $800. I also see what looks like a nice set on CL now for $400.
I think the prices generally depend on condition and those magnesiums chip very easily, so many of them are damaged.

I'm not sure I would feel comfortable buying a set of used magnesium wheels from an unknown source. Used wheels (especially on a performance car) make me nervous in general, but used mag is a whole other matter.

Another set is up for auction. Looks like the same set.

50% chance you will be dissapointed
buying used wheels without being able to check them on a balancer.
Ask any honest tire shop and they will tell you they see alot of used wheels that are bent.
I bought a used set of 4 each Magnesium wheels and when I went to my local tire shop to get my new tires mounted.... they showed me 2 of the wheels were slightly bent.
They said that was typical of used wheels purchased on Ebay, Craigslist, etc. for 2 of 4 to be bent.
I have done business with this tire shop for many years because they know what they are doing and I trust them.
So buyer beware, as always.
Not trying to rain on the parade, just setting realistic expectations.
