Default bad reflection of dash top on windshield

yes , i did a search which was fruitless . 2004 has a BAD , that's BAD , reflection on windshield , bad enough that one has to struggle to see through it . i'm sure others have encountered this and arrived at a brilliant solution but i didn't find one . we'd appreciate any suggestions . i think the 2000 also has this problem but to a much milder degree , have to drive it one day to check . by the way , interior is tan and dash is brown in color [and shiny as opposed to matte] . thanks again . . .peace

Sounds like somebody got carried away with the ArmorAll or something similar. Get it really clean and it won't be as bad. Then use 303 (sparingly) as a protectant.
That said, the size and angle of the windshield and dash will always produce some glare. SEM makes a clear matte spray that would certainly cut it to a minimum, but would require pulling the dash to apply.

I agree with cleaning off the dash (you could use some mild dish soap and a clean, moist rag). Once done, the dash should be less reflective and the glare will be reduced. I do not use any protectant on mine and do not have the glare problem.

I drove my 04 with Shale/Neutral interior in bright sun all day and I saw no glare other than the HUD display and a the trim around it reflected in the windshield a little. I was wearing sun glasses if that makes a difference.

May not matter to you or the OP, but doesn't the HUD get really hard to read through those?

I have the same problem some times. It seems to happen when driving in the direction of the sun. I wear polarized sun glasses and use 303 protectant. May have to go with a dash mat.

They made the C5's dash too smooth and you'll always have some glare. Polarized sunglasses work great, but they also make your HUD display very dim.

Wash the dash thoroughly with mild soap. Towel dry. Apply Einzett Cockpit Premium. It will reduce the glare.

I love Aerospace 303, but that seems like an exterior product to me. I use the Cockpit Premium on interior plastic and faux leather.

My dash mat doesn't seem to have issues with glare from being smooth. Here are some pics.

My eye doctor told me people should always wear sunglasses with UV protection on bright days to help prevent damage like cataracts that show up later in life. I know some people never use them, but you might want to give them a try. Not only for protection but reduce eye strain, fatigue and glare. If the sun is bright enough to cause glare on the dash its the time for polarized sun glasses.

Polarized sunglasses drastically reduce glare, and no, they do not make it hard to see the HUD.

washed the dash with some dawn but don't see a difference in the gloss/luster . looked to see what color dash was in 2000 and it's black and similar material to the 2004 . i don't remember it being a reflection problem . i have cataracts , both eyes , with my shooting [right] eye being the worst . i appreciate your time and suggestions . .peace......oh , forgot , i looked at dash mats on google and found various materials mostly black with exception of one place which had many colors , i think it was ''cover king'' or ''cover craft'' in any case ''cover something'' .

Wear sun glasses. Protect your vision. It will also eliminate the dash glare problem.

There have been a number of threads on this topic. For many people the HUD is significantly dimmed by polarized sunglasses. Some aren't. It might have something to do with the polarity in the glasses themselves. I put my polarized pair in my Nissan. The HUD in the Corvette was unusable with them.

Well, when you do get it clean, they make armor all type products that don't create any shine.
