Default My number came up

Never been in a wreck before where I was driving. Sure can't say that anymore.

I was driving the vette yesterday. Usually I have shoes on when I drive, but today I was in flip flops and I kicked them off and threw them into the back. My little sister was in the car with me, and she loves it when I get on the car a bit. I wanted to give her a real treat that day, so I came to a full stop when no one was around and told her we were going to do a burnout.

I turned off traction control, and punched it. I've never punched it with my shoes off before. I didn't have a feel for it. I gave it too much. It got away from me, fishtailed, and took us into a about a 6' ditch. Upon hitting the bottom of the ditch, the car pole vaulted and landed upside down. Thank God the halo sacrificed itself for us. Thank God the water in the ditch was low. Thank God the windows were open, and there was an easy escape route through the passenger window opening.

Most of all, thank God both of us walked away. I have only a few scratches on my foot, she was spotless.

The car didn't fare as well of course. The front bumper is somehow not smashed to bits, the hood is still perfect, but the halo, hatch, and windshield are severely damaged. The halo is bent all to hell, which I imagine will be the cars death knell.

I'm an idiot. I'm swearing off fast cars for a good while. Too much temptation.

The important thing is that you impressed your little sister by almost killing her !

Whoa.........not good!

Thankfully you are both okay, but it sounds like the 'Vette is totaled.

Glad you and your sister are uninjured. That was not the best judgment 1) with a passenger, 2) in a car you are unfamiliar with its potential 3) on a public road. Thank goodness no one was hurt - the car can be replaced. Best of luck going forward from here.

Yes, my sentiments exactly. I pretty well hate myself at the moment. Please don't rub it in.

Fishtailing a vette on takeoff seems to be the most common cause for self inflicted car crashes. Glad you and your sister are okay but your the second person to get into alot of trouble trying to impress someone with a vette.

I'd love to rip you and your actions to shreds, but I'm pretty sure you've already done that and still doing it to yourself. We all make mistakes and have done stupid sht if we didn't we wouldn't have learned the lessons we did nor be the people we are today. I can't even image what your parents saying. You've obviously thought about all the things that could have happened to end or at least severely change both your lives. We've all done things, made poor choices and followed through with actions we are not proud of. Very few admit it and open themselves up to punishment publicly though. I know for a fact I'm very lucky to be here today with some of the stupid reckless things I did in my youth. Just makes me appreciate my kids now even more and realize how blessed I am.

Unfortunately it sounds like you have a long road ahead of you to make this right. But the worst part is that you'll probably be beating yourself long after others have forgiven. The past is the past it can't be changed and we all make mistakes. It's how you handle the mistake after it's made that says who you are not the fact that you made a mistake. Wish you and your family he peace in dealing with the situation. Your both safe and unharmed, learn from the lesson make amends and do your best to be a lot wiser as you move on my friend.

Instances like this are exactly the reason why when my tuner told me he turned of traction control I told him to turn it back on.

Glad y'all are ok. Hope the Vette can be fixed.

I hope it's fixable just because the car deserves better than to be a wreck. That being said, I don't want it anymore. I'm going to punish myself with economy sedans for a while.

God had nothing to do with it.
You got lucky....

to do that, with your little sister in the car....
That's what teenagers do, show off for girls.

enough lecture.
I'm glad neither of you was badly hurt.

You are lucky and blessed you both walked away. I have done some less then intelligent things with cars, and like you and Pirateslife, I am blessed that no injuries or worse happened. No need for us to berate you (although some no doubt will). Take care, and I am sure the lessons you learned from this, will stay will you in the future.

I'm glad you didn't hurt anyone, as for the car, not so much.

Glad that no one was injured or worse. Sorry about the car too.

Let this thread be a reminder to us all, when thinking of doing foolish things.
Let's all be careful out there and stay safe.

Indeed, cautionary tale.
