I've never said I don't like to go fast. What I've said is that I don't have a need to exceed the speed limit (well, at least not by much, maybe 5 or so mph over the posted speed limit on the highway at times, which is generally not going to cause one to be pulled over and cited). So if and when I do exceed the posted speed limit, it's not by much, thus I feel I have no need for a detector to alert me to a cop in the vicinity on the prowl for speeders. Besides, with the posted speed limit of 75 on most of the highways in my state, doing 75 - 80 is plenty fast enough for me.

So that's how I roll, and it's worked just fine for me for many, many years now.

I have done some cross country rally's and found the detector to a very valuable tool. Nothing attracts LEO's better than bunch of sticker-ed up cars driving through their state and there always is someone doing well north of triple digits bringing attention to others. Out of habit I also use it daily on my work commute. Honestly I find it pretty useless in town driving. Cops here are pretty smart and with POP technology you will never have enough time to react. Long stretches of road are different, there are not many obstacles that can mask the signal or the car and most of the time you will have plenty of warning if a radar is being worked in the area. You always have to be smart about how you drive and a detector will only give you a slight advantage and not at all times. On the other side a cost of one speeding ticket can easily be more than a good detector so to me it is a well worth roll of dice.

I try to keep it at 9-under and use my Valentine mostly on open roads because the thing is ANNOYING with all the false alarms in town.

Not at all. Just saved my butt this morning. I use a bypass to get to work and the speed limit is 65. In GA 10 over no one will ever bother you. Well I was cursing at 75 with this BMW ahead of me not even thinking or paying attention to were I was at (my fault). Well they are doing construction for a mile and its off the road. So other then signs there is no effect on the road as they are building new on and off ramps. But they dropped the speed to 55. Well there was a cop running radar with three other cops. I slowed to 60 and the BMW kept going. Well until he saw him but was to late and blue lights were on. Another cop had another one pulled over already. And fines are doubled here for work zone.

I always drive with my radar on even though I seldom speed. Seems like its biggest use is when I'm not thinking and want to do a pull getting on to the highway and am not being cognizant of LEOs. The radar detector goes off because there is one right behind me using Ka band as he's cruising around. The fact I get bailed out probably once a year is worth it to me.

It's extremely rewarding when you know an undercover is patrolling with Ka on and someone without a radar comes flying by you and the undercover only to get pulled over. I've had my my cheap remanufactured Escort 8500 for 6 years and it still gets the job done, no tickets knock on wood since 07.

I use mine though I don't speed too often. It's more or less a reminder to check my speed when it goes off

And so you couldn't have simply avoided getting pulled over by just paying attention to the road signs (drop in the speed limit because of a work zone) as any good driver should, but instead have to rely on your detector to save your butt?

BTW why were you cursing at 75 anyway? Is your job that bad that you hate going to work?

but I speed within about 7 - 10 over. Comes in real handy if you are in a area your not familiar with.

I have to say I'm a bit surprised at the sheer volume of posters that say they never speed. Following that train of thought, they should have put a governor on your 'vette at the factory so that it isn't possible to do more than 70. I mean anything over 70 isn't ever needed right? I'm sure none of you "non speeders" have ever done 40 in a 35 , or 50 in a 45.

Many of you even admit to doing 9 over the limit, because in your municipality they don't ticket you until you are doing 10 over. So obviously it's not following the letter of the law to a T that you are concerned with, but rather avoiding fines. That is what a radar detector helps to do, avoid fines. It is just not possible for me to know how far over the limit I can go without getting tickets in every municipality. I get an alert, I slow to the limit. If a radar detector helps to avoid even a single ticket, it pays for itself.

I have driven across country several times, and radar detectors have helped me avoid tickets bunches of times. Some stretches of country are long, flat roads, with no turns, and they just beg to go over the speed limit. Going faster than the speed limit isn't unsafe, you are just risking getting pulled over by the revenuers. A good radar detector helps avoid having to pay fines.

You like to drive slow as molasses in your 'vette, never shifting out of third gear, go ahead. I sure as heck won't stop ya. The vette is a performance machine, and I for one like to enjoy it's performance. For me that means I use my judgement about whether or not a speed limit sign is for safety or simply for generating revenue. My radar detector helps me decide when I should slow down to avoid paying a ticket.

Our limit is very liberal...even if you just go the limit getting on the freeway is fun! No detector here...

Nice! The limit around by where I live is 70, but pretty much everyone does 80 or above and the police don't care. When it is close to the end of the month and they need to fill their quotas, it's nice to have a heads up of where they are camping. The Valentine One has a nifty device called the Savvy that lets you mute the RD when going below a speed that you set with a dial. It eliminates alerts around town.

I have not gotten a speeding ticket in 24 years. I speed nearly every single day. Okay you just got me to jinx myself.

I haven't gotten a speeding ticket since I was 18 years old. I'm 42 now, so do the math. Really I have no reason to lie to you, and it doesn't really matter whether you believe me or not. I know RD have saved me from tickets. Many other people have avoided tickets using RD's, thats why Belscort and Valentine (and whistler and cobra) stay in business.
