Does reading Corvette Forum make you a Corvette guru??
I've been a member here for a number of years ('88 C4) but not that active until I bought my C5 2 1/2 years ago. Since then I've shared my 'expertise' with local fellow club members regarding mainly C5 info that I learnt from here. Lately I've been able to get two C5 members to get the LMC5 module, help another with his dim HVAC display and then tonight at a local show, shared my experience regarding the Gatorback belts vs OEM to get rid of the squeak (he's on his 6th OEM belt and the noise just came back). So now he's going to try the Gatorbacks.
My question is though, has the CF made you the local hero/go-to guy in your circle of Corvette friends? It just seems when there is a problem, I've already read about it here and can give an explanation of why and how to fix it - usually for pretty cheap!

Ah you have done well grasshopper, now go and spread the word....
I hear what your saying. I have friends that own vette's and they all ask me for advise on corvette issues. Its not only the forum its because I and you too research and ask questions before we open the tool box. That's is what makes you a guru. Now go and spread the word....

No, but it's been extremely helpful in figuring out small issues or finding ways to spend more money on the car.

I think the forum helps a lot. If it wasn't for it I would have never installed my own clutch and long tubes. Or been able to diagnose other problems I have had over the years.

Maybe not a guru, but someone who has access to others who may have encountered the same issues as you, and found solutions. I've found some fixes both here and in the C3 forum that have saved me lots of trial and error time and made me seem smarter than I really am.
I try to learn from the mistakes of others because I don't have time to make them all myself.

It depends on when the last time you stayed at a Holiday Inn was?

Uh no...having worked on corvettes (being able to repair or upgrade just about everything), as well as being able to drive one well makes one a Corvette Guru, IMO.
Can't be a Guru without REAL WORLD experience. The internet isn't "real world".
Now, it IS the place to go find answers to many questions that would normally take many hours, days or years to figure out on one's own. It is the place to assist in becoming a Guru.

Whats makes you a guru is experience wrenching, leaving skin on bolts, nuts, and edges.

Being on here hasn't made me a Corvette guru, but it has given me a ton of information about the car and its problems/solutions. I have passed on some info to others based on what I have discovered here or just from my own experience.

Walk the Talk
Have been exposed to tons of excellent information that I other wise wouldn't have a clue to.
Can do the simple things, when it comes to most, like my car to much to have it laid up indefinitely, always go to my pro.

Hasn't made me a "Guru" but it sure has helped with any problems that I've had.

The wealth of information on here is easy to pass on and allows one to at least take part in a conversation on various subjects. I like to help out others in need and some simple information can really get a person on the right track.
To answer the second part, it wasnt until I started chasing lower ET's at the strip that people began to take my info and opinions seriously. It makes sense after all. You have to prove you know what you're talking about before you can be considered a credible source. Not that I consider myself to be a "Guru" in any sense. But there's something to be said for experience and the been-there-done-that factor. I've been able to give real world knowledge on what makes sense to do and not to do performance wise.
The forum is a way to interact and share experience and ask questions. But it doesnt give you experience. So No, the forum doesnt make you a Guru, but applying it all outside the forum may.
