Hello all, just curious-
Out of all the mods and repairs you have done to your car (both big and small), which one either did not work out like you wanted it to, or ended up being a much bigger pain than you thought it would? If you are willing to admit it, which mod do you wish you would not have done?

I am just starting down the mod path (slowly but surely). The only one that comes to mind for me so far (repair wise) is taking the dash out to replace the cracked HUD bezel. That one took me a bit longer than I thought it would because I ended up cleaning all those areas you can never get to (10 years of dust and dirt from the previous owner).

well it isn't for my c5 but the c4 I had. I converted the headlights to hid and that required taking the whole thing apart. pain in the .... hated it.

Well I am sure there will be a ton of others to refute this, but lowering the car on stock bolts is mine. After trying stock bolts, aftermarket bolts, C6 Z06 shocks, Bilstein's C5 Z51 springs etc. I finally went with coil overs to get the stance and the ride I wanted. Should have started with them in the first place. The ride harshness (this is where I expect all the flaming to come) just was too severe for me lowered on bolts. The coil overs allowed me the ride plus the look and the handling I wanted. I did add C6 Z06 sways and metal endlinks. Any way my story and I am sticking to it.

Mine's mostly stock, but I did install a Curb Alert for about three weeks...then took it off and sold it. Good product, but it's like training wheels: once I figured out where the front end was, didn't need it. After that, it got annoying. (I came to the C5 from a Boxster, where you sit about two feet closer to the nose, so the adjustment period was longer than it really should have been.)

We should probably have a pool of these widgets to loan to new C5 owners for a month, then recycle them to the next guy.

From what I have read on the forum,lowering on stock bolts changes the stance but not the ride performance.

Catless X pipe is my only regret. It's pretty bad with the cam I chose.

Throw on a TI catback from a Z06, that will tame it down but sound great and flow well versus the louder aftermarket systems.

I have my stock Ti exhaust on the rear of the system. I like the sound, but the smell is what gets me. Sorry I wasn't more specific in the previous post.

The only mod I have done to my car that I regret doing was when I bought a set of MRR GT5 wheels for it. I had nothing but fitment troubles with the wheels and the manufacturer was a PITA about it.

I am not ragging on the forum vendor though - he went above and beyond what he had to do to try and get MRR to remedy the situation. I know I will never buy another set of MRR wheels again.

For me, it was definitely the installation of a short throw shifter. I had a B&M Sport Shifter and I just could not get used to it. It wasn't the shifters fault but a question of simple physics. Less leverage = more effort. I thought it would grow on me but I finally gave up and replaced it with a C6 Z06 shift kit (shifter and box). THAT was the best mod I ever did!

My best mod for the money was a hardbar delrin shift ****. Actually, "****" is a misnomer because it's more of a handle. Its extra length gives you exactly the leverage you need with an aftermarket shifter.
