What is up with the high prices of c5 z06s?!
I was thinking of buying a 02-04 c5z with 10k miles or less, but the asking prices for such a car seem to be very high twenties to mid 30s. It seems as though these cars are up about 5 grand from last year.
One can buy a c6z with the same milage for 7-10 more and it seems like the c6z is coming down in value making the gap between a c5z and c6z closer all the time.
So whos crazy the c5 guys for asking to much or the c6 guys for selling to low? What am I missing here?
As ridiculous as the prices seem these days I think one would be a fool not to grab a c6z for say 10 grand more than a c5z condition and milage being similar.

Part of the "problem" is your timing. Prices get softer in the fall and early winter. When people get the itch in early spring prices go up. Every year there are fewer low mileage cars available. I bought a one owner 8.5k car this winter and I plan on driving it.

It does appear people are asking 5k more.
I've owned about 8 C5Z's over the years. Bought and sold them all from 14-20k. Now everyone is asking 25k. I assume they are sitting.

I have a purchase pending on a 02 Z with just under 23k miles for 24,000. One owner with brand new tires. I jumped at the opportunity.
I thought about going for an 08+ c6, but figured the prices will continue to drop over the years while hopefully the c5 Z has reached a bottom for awhile. Also, there is around a 4-6k gap between similar mileage c5 Z and the standard c6 coupe. I don't put much weight into interior and for my purposes of having fun, one will do just as well as the other.
They both have their sex appeal, but a c5 Z was the car I drooled over in high school.

A C5 Z06 will only go up in value, especially the low mileage ones. They're a very unique car that can still hold it's own in performance, even in stock form.

With the average miles on the typical C5 getting so high, the volume of low mile cars can't properly offset the average reported values. Low mileage cars are worth significantly more than average as average increases...

I'm in the process of moving from a C5Z to a C6Z. Just bought an 08 with 14K, new tires, stock. It will cost me over $20k to trade up from my 03 25k mile Z when you consider the taxes. That's not small change.
Low mile C6Z demand and get over $40k, many are offered for $50k+. It's not as small a difference as people are making out unless you're buying a higher mileage car and/or an 06.
I'm hoping to get between $25k and $27k out of my 03. We'll see what they really sell for.

You are looking for a 10+ year old performance machine with less than 1000 miles/year on the clock and you are bitching about the price being too high?
Lets put that into perspective for a minute...
A car that can go 200k+ miles with few (if any) major repairs that is barely into the engine break in period. A car that sold for $50k+ 10 years ago and except for the number of years would still be under factory warranty. A car that is MORE THAN 50% OFF ORIGINAL MSPR.
No, I would not pay $25k for a 10+ year old Vette, but I also wanted a driver, not a parade float. But if I wanted a 10+ year old "new car", half off is a good deal.

I agree, buy one with more miles and drive the damn thing. I bought mine 3 years ago with 14k and it has 31k now, it'll probably have 40k by the time I part it next winter. It's a car, not an investment.

The great recession put a damper on new car sales. As a consequence prices have held steady for years. Price has been in the 30 ballpark since 2007 (03/04Z's with those miles). I've also observed private parties are asking dealer prices, without dealer overhead.
With the the base C7 still selling in the neighborhood of MSRP, I see no drastic change ahead. May be best to buy one with more miles than 10K. These extreme low mileage cars may look near new but they could suffer from infant mortality. They are not issue exempt or w/o risk, and when issues pop, it will be on you, w/o warranty. Consider these cars couch potatoes that don't get exercised. Having said that, they are still in demand, otherwise the price would be lower.

The c5zs are very popular with the road racing owners. Hence their demand will keep prices up.
And as previously stated, it's a timeless body style.
