Why does it have to be LOUD, there are plenty of very efficient exhausts that have a nice sound that don't sound like a dump truck.

I love a loud exhaust that has good tone. I usually run Borla straights or SLP loudmouths, but currently I have been running open mid pipes for about 6 mos now. It is loud and the sound really isn't the best, but I can definitely feel a SOTP improvement in power. With no mufflers, a cam and long tube headers it really wakes the dead. Sounds like i should be shooting flames out the back, lol. It helps I live in the country, so don't really have to worry about the neighbors. Currently I am looking for some borla straights or SLP's. I did have B&B Bullets at one time, but they hid the sound of my cam and i didn't like that.

Straight pipes here -
Talk to your neighbors BEFORE it becomes a problem. By the time they complain, they've been hating you for a while. They might not even know their alarm is adjustable.

I pussyfoot around the residential areas, only let 'r rip on the big streets.

this is what I would say, I have had very loud cars in the past that hardly did this unless I was in a parking garage. If just on a cold start that far away it is way to sensitive.

my b&b bullets get no complaints at all and im very thankful for that. what does get a lot of complaints is the guy down the street that drives his car at all hours of the night with the extremely loud music. 2,3,4 in the morning and you can hear him coming.huge rims, video screens everywhere and he doesn't seem to care what anyone thinks. the loudest ive ever heard him, and this is no exaggeration, my whole house shook and woke me up out of bed that I thought there was an explosion. I jumped out of bed and ran outside thinking there was an explosion yet it was just him cruising..

No complaints here, but then again my exhaust is going through some very tame magnaflows. I also have cutouts but I rarely run them, when I do run them it's not in a neighborhood

Alarm too sensitive or exhaust too loud: it's not at all impossible that both are true.
Just something to think about.

Straight pipes/straight through/stinger mufflers etc on a Corvette or any other vehicle is the same mentality as the Harley guys. Just making a vehicle loud for the sake of being loud. They all think their getting attention, when in most cases it's not in favor of their noise.

That's why a lot of people hate hot rods/bikes.

Only in Germany. But after a few months, the neighbors warmed up and appreciated good 'ol American Muscle.

When I moved back to the States, I went over to meet thy neigbors and give them fair warning about my 2000 FRC. Both neighbors LOVED it!!!

Case closed.

I rode bikes for 13 years, believe it or not your safer on a loud bike, people hear you in their blind spot, I rode race bikes not Harleys but the theory is the same. The reason every toy I owned was loud was due to performance upgrades. I buy a performance machine I enhance it with a free flowing exhaust, unlike some people I did not buy a corvette as a status symbol so I could drive it quietly to the country club trying not to interrupt tee shots. Thanks for all the replies and advise, I like the post about backing it into the garage, such a simple solution if it works. If not will have a talk with the neighbor. I still think it's to sensitive, my wife's truck alarm don't go off when I fire up and it's in the same driveway.

One of the complaints happened to me the other day down here in FL when some older gentleman (being polite here) pulled up next to me at a stop light in his prius and screamed out his window "you need new mufflers and the poluting piece of sh@#!!!!!" I just smiled and responded "it already has them" to which he responded with "F&%# YOU!!!!!" and the bird. As he pulled away on the back of his prius he had a coexist peace sticker, obama stickers (yes, plural) and a green peace sticker. I almost wet myself with laughter at that point. So...really, I guess only one valid complaint about my noise level and I know it's louder that what you have on your car. Just remember..."If it's too loud...you're too old".
You should have pulled in front of him and floored it. Leave him in a big dark cloud of exhaust. Coexist with that biatch

I agree, something that is incessant is annoying and will alienate the neighbors. As long as you aren't out there revving the engine to redline for 30 minutes at a time while you tune your car and racing dirt bikes through your yard your fine.

Also, if your concerned go talk to your neighbor...or go complain about his alarm to him. "Come on man, every time I start my car, or it tunderstorms, or a motorcycle drives down the street, or the wind blows, your damn car alarm goes off!! Don't be an a$$hole." On second thought, just talk to him nicely and he'll probably appreciate it.

I agree. I have a problem with a neighbors dog always getting out and growling at people so I politely approached him. after he turned a deaf ear didn't care then I decided to call animal control. I went about it the right way first, after that I had to seek someone else. my car never gets revved up. I just turn it on and drive away. I respect my neighbors and it seems your doing the same. I revel in covered parking garages.
Listening to the staccato of all those alarms going at once!
Drives the Indian Casino security guards nutts too.
