Problem is I don't have a soldering iron and wouldn't be good with that anyway . Other ideas ?

Take it to an electronics repair shop and show them the fix is one approach. The other is just buy a new remote. Not sure if the fix will work. A new remote would.

When I bought my car 3 years ago I tested the remotes to make sure they worked. Have not used them since. Batteries may even be dead now. Course I'm not normal among other things.

Do you want to sell the remotes?

My old remote just stoped working about a month ago too. Ordered one online, cost me around 20 bucks. After I got it, just had to program it. It's easy to do, alot of threads on it. The c5's remotes can be programed inside the car in fob training mode. You can ask me any questions about this, just went through the same issue.

I didint know all that about the compatibility. Mine is a 04 so I used a online auction site to get mine. I know some fle-markets have guys that just sell and program keyless entty systems, you might check there. Ours does is minton WV. Other than that, you could check with the dealer. sorry about your luck budy. I would check an online auction site, to see if you could find early GM model fobs.

If you can't find someone to work on the FOB for you can mail it to me and I can do it. Can't promise it will fix it but I can see if it has additional cold solder joints. I can at least do the 6 in the link.

PS: My remotes are 2001 and would not work. Would not sell them anyway.

I did find early remotes on E-Bay a couple of year ago fairly reasonably priced. Just make sure that you have a guarantee fro the seller that they work.
Also, just a crap shoot here, but try holding the lock-unlock while near the car util you hear the horn beep. If your fob battery died or was removed and replaced, it may just need to be re-sync'd. I've found that the dealerships ofen don't know some of the little things that can be done to make something that appears broken actually work. It's work a shot. Zuti

I have to resync mine every time I get in it after it has sat for more than a day.

I just replaced the battery in my remote yesterday, I also only had the one remote so I ordered a "New" one from a E-Bay Vender. The price on the new one was $89.97.

ZUTI is correct maybe your old one just needs to be re-sync'd. Stand next to the car and hold the Lock and Unlock buttons down at the same time for 10 seconds or so. Once it is re-sync'd the horn will honk and then you are good to go. Might help might not but it is cheap to find out.

2022 C5 of the Year Finalist - Modified

Default Does it need to be Reprogrammed?

I bought my 97 last year and they gave me a new one for "free".

A month later, it didn't work. I took it back and it needed to be reprogrammed. Works fine if I don't keep it in the cabinet over the microwave, dah!

Then two months ago I bought on eBay a passive remote for $75. Both work great.

Thanks dadaroo, my cousin was able to solder it and it works now. Thanks everyone. I'd still like to get another remote as a backup if anyone has one.
