Targa Top: Glass or Painted?

Car came with clear top only...It was like a microwave in the cockpit on sunny days! Bought a liner for it-wow what a difference. Found a painted matching top for $100 bucks Yep $100! The clear top is hanging on the garage wall since.

I have only had my painted top on my pewter once during the 7 years I've owned the car. I had it on for less than a day and took it off because I felt too claustrophobic. In the nice weather I don't use either top. My windows are tinted and I love the look with the clear top. I have been debating doing the halo in black just to finish the look. Kinda like this except I have stock thin spokes:

Same here Frank. This question is subjective. Sort of like the BSM debate (debacle?). Some people like one thing, other people like something else. Bottom line is what the user likes. I don't cater to what others think. I do stuff because its the way I like or want it. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.

Mine came with the glass top and could not imagine it without (painted), I like it as it is light and goes in or out easily by myself. If I did find a Nassau blue top I would buy it for a spare if needed but still believe I would run the glass 99.9% of the time, my top is out close to 1/2 the time anyway.
Mr Bill that picture is AWESOME!

targa top choice
my car is pewter and i think it looks better with the clear. i have never noticed the heat but i have a plastic shade which is held on by static electtricity. black interior seems larger with clear. my painted targa has been in storage since i purchased the clear. i like being able to look up and out and having a brighter interior. and you do have more headroom........

Mine is black and I have the clear top. When it's warm the top is OFF and when it's cold the top is on. I like the light coming through though and I always wear a cap.

The difference in exterior appearance is negligible between the painted and lexan tops to me. I never use the painted top as I find the clear top gives more benefits to the driver. It lets you see out, lets in light, makes the cockpit feel more spacious, and gives more headroom! I rarely ever run the A/C so when it gets hot the clear top goes into the storage location in the trunk. If I go on a hwy roadtrip when it's hot I run the A/C and it has no problem keeping up to keep the cabin cool. I keep my painted top at home in the garage, and have never used it once.

I have both tops and have only had the tinted top on twice. Once to try it, and the second time just to be sure I didn't like it. It is too hot in summer and I just don't like the look of it on the car.
But, I'm glad I have both tops. I wouldn't sell the tinted top, just because it gives me peace of mind knowing I have it if I want to put it on.......and, I think the next owner will appreciate having the same advantage.

I have both and haven't put the solid panel on since I got the car 3 years ago. I love the extra headroom the clear top provides. I bought a cling on type shade (the type with the little dots) and it drops the interior temp drastically.....ANd can be removed easily if needed.

Looks like you're getting personal preference answers. So here's mine. I have both tops. I like the lexan top and is the reason I went with a coupe. I use the solid top when temp gets over 90.

Personal choice and color should drive your decision. I have a Mag Red II with both tops and very rarely have the painted top on. I believe with the windows tinted dark the glass lid ties in well. Theatre of the mind - think of the cockpit in Top Gun looking for bogies. Really opens up the cockpit. Gets hot all summer here but hey I live in Cali and take the top off to enjoy the sunshine. Glass top is noisier but I can live with it.

I have a question regarding this thread. Do all of the ppl who say the lexan top causes the interior to get hot.... do all of you have black interiors? I have always used the clear top and my light oak interior doesn't ever seem to get any hotter than any other vehicle I've owned. Very normal interior temps. And where I live can get very hot (100+ in the summer time, last year we had some days over 110+). Have never noticed the Vette interior any hotter than any other car. Just my two cents.
