Yep, just filler with fiberglass in it, it WILL SHRINK and you will see the repair, especially on a hood. Did you put any matte over the hole or just fill it with this?

Looking good! Even with the edges primer its better than big hood pin holes. There is nothing wrong with repairing fiberglass. The do it with boats all the time. I personally loving playing with Fiberglass. Only one way to find out if the repair stands the test of time or not. You've got your buddy helping you with it so why not give it a shot. I probably would have patched with resin and FG mat but like you said your buddy is the pro and thats what he makes a living doing so….i'd let him do what he does I wonder what the previous owner was thinking???? I mean how is a front mounted hood going to fly up at speed anyway? LOL If your like me that prob was driving you nuts since you kinda can't miss it when you get in the car. Gonna be nice!

You'll be lucky if it doesn't crack when it shrinks. I always do random weave matte (vs. the stuff you see in the fiberglass repair kits) and resin/hardener to cover holes/cracks, then what you used after the 1st sanding of the resin/weave then the spot putty last. If you use the square matte for the repair, it REALLY shows through the paint after it shrinks. Next time I do one, I want to leave the repair under a heat lamp for a few days to try to get the repair to shrink as much as possible before base/clear.

I fix fiberglass with body shop material, not a keyboard. If you have this much time to respond with so much insight, obviously you are not doing a bunch of glass repair. While you're busy banging your keyboard and jaws, we've been successfully restoring Corvettes for the last 31 years. Sounds like you have a significant amount of knowledge about shrinkage first hand. Oh snap! Sooooo....how bout that weather today. Pretty nice out huh? Lol I'm impressed with how fast your getting it done. Can't wait to see it all painted. I'm dying for a cool new hood but terrified about trying to match the color.

Sounds like the tow truck driver that was trying to convince me my Z06 was a front wheel drive car and his method of towing was fine. When I repeatedly disagreed he barked back he has been doing this for 30 years and knows what he is doing

Huh?

My point is that just because you have been doing something one way for thirty years doesn't mean you are doing it right.

I hope he is doing the work cheap because a used hood can be found for almost free.

Or he's learned things over the years to improve and perfect the method. He's done fiberglass hoods for me before and have never come apart or crack. This is his daily business as he does full frame restorations. Has five restorations going on right now.

Yeah used hood for sale on here is 250 plus shipping. Materials were way cheaper than that will ever be. Yes I'm getting the friend discount as I'm doing the grunt work. Cost of paint would be the same for either hood.

At the end of the day, I've heard what everyone has said and I'll take the direction I want to go.

I have no doubt he knows his way around fiberglass.

The C5 isn't made out of fiberglass though.

And yes he knows that as well. It's smc which contains fiberglass. Here's a post about it https://www.corvetteforum.com/1563486122-post10.html
