Time to invest in top of the line electronic defense systems (so long as your state allows them, or you don't care and have a crafty way to hide your system). It needs to pick up front and rear at a minimum, you can often times pick them up (especially at night) over a mile out, while their radar's effective range is much shorter. Also if you go top dollar you can get a good one that picks up lidar as well, a must for any daytime heroics. It doesn't help you if they don't have it on, but with their gear off it is much, much harder to prove you were breaking the law in court.
I was arrested twice for speed prior to my corvette, once in my porche, and once in my mr2 (the hard knocks of growing up), both times a good system would have easily saved me. Its cheaper than having to pay higher insurance or a giant ticket.
The freeway is also a really bad place to speed....

So...did you forget to ask that nice state trooper if he's a Corvette forum member?
Yes of course, he was not however, I did inform him about this wonderful site, he told me that he rarely had time to spend online, But after I shared with him what a rewarding site this was he let me know he would check it out, he drives a C-4, 1996
I told him anytime he wanted to check out a C5 I would be more than happy to let him give mine a spin.
Least I could do I thought
Man I have to tell everyone, I have no idea where he came from, I was very very diligent on my prior observations.
and I have to say I was shocked when he told me my speed, The whole run was so quick I just could not believe it it really happened.
A bit of bad luck for getting pulled over. Most C5 drivers know 128 is soooo easy.
sooo true

I've gotten lucky twice in my life, and not with a vette.
First time was on I95 New England Throughway to new hampshire 20 years ago doing 100 in my thunderbird (yeah I know), My GF said "Oh No" as looked coming up to a Trooper sitting in the middle of the center divider got off the pedal and blew past him @90, thought I was dead (Mind you its 4am), he watched me blow by him and never even moved his car, I crapped a brick for the next 3 miles waiting for him to come up, but never did.
The second time was on the NJTPK 6 months later going to see my GF following traffic and doing 80 in the left hand lane, saw him flying up behind me about a 1/2 mile away, moved over to the center lane, was dead sure I was a goner, pulled up next to me looked at me gave me a nod and took off. Changed my shorts when I got to my GF's house.
And in Dec I took my c5 to get its inspection, and on the NJTPK in the afternoon between exit 8a and 9 is a ten mile strip I opened her up, went from 75 to 110 in about 3 seconds or so it felt for about 1/2 mile before I brought her back down before running out of luck. If I ever do what you did I can only wish I get as lucky as you.

A local cop up this way that always come to the car meets just to talk and B.S. was out one night. Hes a really cool dude and knows the local car scene well and is always giving us a heads up here and there. We'll we got to talking back and forth and my buddy told him what a good doughnut the Vette will do... I kinda chuckled and he did too. He then tells me to show him (parking lots pretty much empty, its around midnight). I was like... naaaa man thats a setup and laughed. He then tells me hes going to ticket me if I don't do it So I obliged and fried some rubber off for him. He was grining from ear to ear and blasted his lights just to screw with me. Just goes to show there's still some cool cops out there.

Anyone who says that they have never opened up their vette or bike on the highway is a damn liar. I have never been pulled over my my vette but on my 1000RR one day I got hit going well over the limit. As soon as I crested the hill and saw him sitting there I sat up, rolled off the throttle and started braking. I pulled over, shut down the bike, helmet off stepped off the bike and sat down. The only thing that saved me is that he was a reservist attached to my active duty unit.

I'm too high profile to get really stupid. The locals will dial 911 and or the LEO's will light me up. Since my brother-in-law is the Assistant DA in the county and the Sheriff is my friend as well as deputies and PD officers I've enlisted into the service over my career I must try and be very careful. Not saying I don't get silly from time to time....just saying I appreciate the way they tolerate my car.
LEO's are car guys too, and some of them are going to give us a break IF THEY CAN. You lucked out and remember to count your blessings. 128mph ticket could have been very serious. I've been ticketed for 125mph(was going MUCH faster, but Constable gave me a break) and then the Judge dropped it.
Like I said....My car is too high profile and I really try to keep a lid on it.

Good story. Great ending. Did he ever say where he was when he clocked you?
I can relate. I had a new 1970 Chevelle SS396. I was heading to my cottage at about 2 AM doing triple digit speeds. I look in my mirror and see a car way back. He stayed there for several miles, so I was guessing a cop. I finally slowed down to go through a town and he caught up and pulled me over. The reason he didn't catch me before is that he had his car pegged and couldn't close the gap. He had radioed ahead because he was going out of his jurisdiction so he apologetically said he had to give me a ticket. He wrote it up for 10 mph over the limit. I thanked him and he asked me to keep it below 80.

At least now you know how fast your where going. be carefull out there.
Ok, Before I tell what happened let me first state that I know it was not the smartest thing to do, and I expect some flaming, But I feel like I need to share.
Well here I go, I had decided to take the Vette out for a spin, for the most part I have a normal route that I take when going for a quick spin and unless I have somewhere to go I stick to it, \
I had left the house and been out riding for a little while and was on the way back home, anyway I had just got back on the interstate and noticed that I was the only car within site, Totaly clear, (I thought)
so after shifting up through the gears I decided to slow it down so I could down shift to 2nd and run it through the gears, again after looking and making sure that I was alone I slowed down to a creep and shifted into 2nd and after once again looking around I opened her up, (I never look at my gauges, for the most part I pay attention to my shift light) so I never really knew how fast I was going, I ran her up to 63 or 6400 then went into 3rd and did the same,
after hitting 4th I kept her pegged, but just for a few seconds, then got out of it, slowed her down and set the cruise at the speed limit (still no one in sight) I carried on for 4 miles or so, Took my exit and was tooling along.
Guess What, Blue Lights are the next thing I see in the mirror, I of course slow to a stop on the side of the road at a closed gas station, shut down the car and roll my window down and a State Highway patrol officer walks up to my car,
he asked me to exit my vehicle, I of course did what was requested, He then asked me for all the normal stuff which I gave him. at this point (while he was being very friendly) began to tell me that he had clocked me at 128 MPH, MY JAW DROPPED,
I knew I opened her up, But it was for such a brief amount of time that I didnt know what to think. Of course I imedietly began to try and explain to him what I was doing and that I was just blowing her out for a few seconds, But honestly
I was ready to go to jail. He went on to explain to me that what I did was not very smart and that it could land me into some serious trouble, but then he went on to say that he understood owning a fast car does lead to some temptation,
I was completly floored, I was expecting to be handcuffed at this point, He then went on to tell me that he also owns a Corvette and wanted to know if I would show him what all had been done to my car, Of course I opened the hood and showed him all the mods I had made and explained everything.
We stood there and talked for almost 45 minutes talking about Corvettes, Not long after that, another cruiser showed up (I knew it was over then) But the other officer was also a sports car fan, by the time it was all said and done I was there almost an hour and a half. He finaly told me you know your car stands out like a sore thumb and you might want to find another spot to open her up from now on. I was BLOWN away. I have never in my life had such luck. he ended up giving me his phione number and asked if I wanted to go cruising with him and some of his friends some time, Which of course I said YES.
Now I know it was not the smartest thing to do, But I have to say I was one LUCKY SOB.
And heck everyone has had to do this at least once if you own a Vette, Just not get Busted
Anyway I consider myself one lucky son of a gun.
