Less than 10K on rear tires, twice now.
I have had my 99 C5 for for a few years. I replaced all 4 tires soon after I got it. This is the nice weekend car and does not get driven all the time. I put General UHP all around, but only got about 8k miles on the rear. So I put Kumho Ecsta ASX all season on the rear hoping to get some more miles. I got 9k. I'm not doing donuts and racing. My front tires still have half their tread still.
Is this normal? Other people get similar? more? Something wrong?

It is only normal if you are using a lot of throttle. Some of us have that issue.
If you are not, did you ever have it aligned? Something is wrong and that would be my first guess.
I use a lot of throttle, but my '99's don't wear tires that much.
Good luck.

I have about 8-9000 miles on my 345/30/19s NT05Rs and still hooking up good! I will be getting new tires after the summer!
I won't lie, there were several drag day events, and normal driving hooking up 700hp that helped the wear?

check your alignment. My alignment was a little off on my M5 and the rears would last around 10k miles.
Same tires on the vette, and I'm at 10K and still have plenty of tread left.

Alignment could be one thing, but how often do you check to make sure the air pressure is correct? What is the tread wear rating on the tires? The lower the number, the softer the tire and hence they are more prone to rapid wear.

I will admit to excersing the engine from now and then. I had an alignment done when I bought all 4. That obviosly did not help a lot, but may have it checked again. I am aware of the UTGQ treadwaer rating. The last all seasons had a rating of 420AAA

Hmm, I just noticed I am almost at 10k (I've only had the car 3 months ) and my tires look great

alignment is a big part of it. if the toe is off it will destroy the tires. rear toe should be around .03 in
the other thing is don't buy hard tires if you drive spirited, you will scrub them in the ground
a lot of guys i've talked to with various sports cars have wound up getting better life from softer tires simply because they aren't spinning or sliding so often
the hankook v12 is cheap and works well on stock coupes, quite a bit better traction than what you're using
bridgestone re11 is another step up in traction. even with these soft tires 15-20k miles is the norm unless you're tracking them

43000 miles on the car. 2 sets oem goodyear emt 22000 miles 11000 each full sets. 2 sets kumho's run-flats 11000 out of one 8000 out of the other. Michelin on it now, hope to do better with these. If you drive the car just a little bit it will eat the tires.

Replaced the GYs with Michelin A/S PS2 ZPs and have about 36K on them now
New GY OEMs went bald at 30K miles. Were terrible in snow at 5K.
Spent some real bucks for the Michelin PS2s and have over 36K on them now and they look only slightly used. Much better traction, less noise (I have a vert and thought the noise was due to a rag top WRONGO) and superior handling and cornering than with the GYs. \
You get what you pay for. Might check alignment after putting new tires on but if you go el cheapo you will not get performance or long tire life.

It's a nose heavy car that has smaller tires in the front than the rear - you should wear out your fronts faster than the rears if anything. Get the alignment checked.

tire manufacture mileage warranty at 50%
I don't agree with that. The tranny is in the rear - it was designed this way to get close (very close) to 50/50 weight distribution. Also, for the mileage warranty from tire manufacturers: they cut it in half IF the tires aren't the same size on front and rear.

I would think you could see how the tire is wearing, even, worn on inside or outside or middle to determine if it is alignment. Vets aren't know for long tire life from my experience but you should get better that 9,000 miles. Also I notice there a lot of comedians on here, come on guys.

I knew when I posted that the simpleton comedians would show up. It’s too easy of a topic. The Generals I first put on were summer tires with tread wear of 380, the all season kumho 420. I found the receipt on the alignment, it was front end only. The wear on the tires is even, so I was not thinking alignment.
I only put ~3k mile a year on the car so I go about 3 years to have to replace, but it’s still damn expensive
At this point I’m looking at:
Tire Treadwear Price
Bridgestone potenza re760 340aa $202ea
Hankook Ventus 280aa $202ea
Cont. ExtContact DWS 540aa $240ea
Get the alignment check before or after tires?
