Someone Made me an offer I refused.
Greets all,
Had to share this with you cause I found it kinda funny, and it peaked my curiosity. I took my 01 Magnetic Red Coupe out for a spin before the Big Storm hits and my GF text-ed me to get her some wine so I figured cool get to drive it a bit more. While there this other car pulls up in the lot and a lady gets out and goes into the store the guy stays behind in the car and gets out to talk to me about the vette.
He is just loving it pop the hood dying over how clean the engine bay is and some of the mods I know of (I bought the Vette in Oct 13). I notice he's looking not at it to admire it, he's looking like he's buying it. Asks me the year, and mileage tell him its a 01 with 36,500 miles on it, told him when I bought it, told him of the mods, then he asks me if I'd be willing to sell it and offers me $22,000 for it! (I bought it for $18,000 with 34,904 miles on it). Obviously I told him its not for sale, and he asked me to take his number down and think about it.
Now its got me thinking, is that a low ball figure? In my area I've seen this year go for more with more miles on it then I have, so its scratching my head over this like huh? I know I got a good deal when I bought it.
If you want to see what it looks like check out my garage and you tell me.

It was a pretty good offer but I wouldn't have accepted it either. I get the feeling that C5's are slowly becoming very desirable. There are more and more articles appearing in car mags on how C5's are among the best used sportscar bargains out there. They are getting a lot of recognition lately. Just recently, there was an article in C&D and it painted a very rosy picture for the C5 Corvette.
I think more people are taking notice. With the price of the last air cooled Porsche 911's going through the roof there isn't much else out there besides the C5 for the price.

yeah that is a real good offer, if someone offered me 4k more than what I paid for mine when I bought it I would have sold it and found another one lol... but now I'm too deep in mine to let it go that easily... he could have been bluffing but if you have his # why not throw a counter offer of 24k and maybe he will bite or come down to 23k

With taxes, title and tags you would just about break even. Good offer but not for you since you have not had it that long unless you want something else.

If you bought it for 18K and he offered you 22K I would say that is a good return for your 18K in just 4 months. I wouldn't of had to think about it for very long.

Had a 1964 corvette convertible in 1971, paid 1300.00 for it. Someone afforded me 3000.00 more than I paid for it. Wish I would not had sold it| Had a 1967 corvette, someone offered me more than I paid for it. Wish I had not sold it. It is more than about the money.

I'd have sold it on the spot and started looking for a ZO6.

That's a good price he offered. If you are really thinking about it, counter back with a little higher price and see what he says.

Well here is some of the reasons I refused:
1) I just got it in Oct, really havent had much time with it. Plus I do really like it.
2) The car was kept just about immaculate, still has the new car smell.
3) 34,906 miles when I bought it, basically the car isnt even warm yet, and most I've seen arent up kept that well or with the miles for the price I got.
4) Finding the right Red color. (Mag Red is really nice)
5) Car has quite a few mods.
I do want a C6 but not bad enough to part with the C5 at least right now. Yes getting a 4K offer more then what I paid for is a nice profit and nothing to sneeze at, but I didnt buy the C5 for that reason. But I did take his number and told him I might change my mind in the summer.
But I was stunned and surprised to be offered that much, I knew I got a deal at 18K and figured okay I might be able to sell it for 19K-20K with boasting about the mods, but didnt think 22K. Personally for now I think I made the right choice.

I hope you made the right choice because youll never get another offer like that again. Most people who are trying to get $20k+ for their base C5s are sitting on them for a LONG time. $22k+, Youre in C6 territory.
