How is it a PITA? I just got one installed, but it seems like you just unbuckle the housing and pull it out. I had one on my G8 GT and did it every 10,000 miles, it would get real dirty. I would recommend getting a 2nd filter so you can just have one ready to swap in after cleaning the dirty one and letting it dry.

Super easy! Undo the 2 clamps at each side, bend the plastic shroud at an engle and pull the air filter out. Litteraly takes 1 minute in and out.

I have maybe 1k on mine since I installed it and have not checked it yet. Like others said its pretty simple to check though, not a pita at all imo.

I clean it once a year although with 2-3k of driving a year that's probably just a little overkill.

I siliconed mine into the upper housing to make sure it had a good seal... the foam gasket they supply is a piece of junk and will deteriorate/warp pretty fast and my filter wouldn't form to the curve of the upper housing on it's own, the silicone fixed that problem... to clean it I just removed the upper housing via the 2 clips and undo it from the silicone coupler and spray it with filter cleaner and rinse with water... I never used filter oil because it can contaminate the maf... had mine that way for about 3 years and it worked fine but I no longer have the need for it anymore

Don't overservice your air filter. it does more harm than good.

Inspecting it never hurts though.

Now that you've all reminded me, I need to check and see if they have replacement seals. My setup was looking needy when I had it apart 2 weekends ago.
