FRC / Z06 Targa Conversion .. DIY / How to
Got my 1999 FRC in December .. love the way the FRC / Z06 c5's look, but I think they should have come with the option of the targa from the factory.
I dont have $6500 to pay someone to cut the roof off and bolt on some parts, and $3500 is too much for a "kit" even though it uses all new parts
So I'm starting this thread as a DIY / How to / Reference for someone that wants to do the conversion since I couldnt find much info or pictures
Anyways - I "think" I have everything I need for the conversion and so far I have less than $700 in parts. (NOTE- the targa I bought is damaged, so someone should still be well under $1000 in parts buying a good top)
that includes -
latches, halo panel, trim, weatherstrip channels, rear weatherstrip, and interior panels from Aesautoparts (he is parting out vettes in the f/s section)
front weatherstrip from ebay
targa top from the for sale section on here (has some damage)
........................................ ........................................ ..
Heres my car - 1999 FRC, A&A supercharged, kooks headers, borla exhaust, bilstein sport shocks, c6 z06 sway bars, etc
Picked up the parts from the freight company
All the parts from Aesautoparts unpacked ..
Took off the weatherstrip (its held on with three sections of channels and 4 screws) then took off the three weatherstrip channels and the screws that go in the front lip into the metal halo bar / roll bar .. then I had to separate the halo panel from the frame (I had the whole section sent to me complete for convenience) .. best way I found to separate them is take a heat gun to it and shove a trowel in between .. PITA but take your time and it will eventually come apart
After two hours with the heat gun and a trowel I finally got it apart with only two very small cracks
next I took the headliner out of the car, here are pics of the z06/ frc roof .. the roof is held on with brackets in the same spots the targa latches will bolt on ..
Thats all I got done today .. I'll update as I get time to work on it, I'm going to get the car in the garage tomorrow before work and start taking the weatherstripping off and get it ready to cut

Awesome, good luck! I did the same thing with my 97 Camaro. Cut the roof off and put t-tops on. It's was a lot of fun and a lot of work but well worth it!

I'm also very interested in how this goes, I've been thinking about doing this as well, but just have not had time, definitely continue to document your progress for the rest of us, looks like your doing great so far.

Didn't someone else on the forum already do this and post a thread about how they did it as well ??
Might be worth looking up as it could possibly give you some insight and help in doing this.

There was someone with a (i think it was yellow) z06 owner that turned his to a targa FRC. I went looking for it a few days ago and could not find it. Think that his name was Brian maybe. It was quite some time ago.
