Default C5 Shifter Sound Barrier?

The shifter area has always been very loud in my car. I'm assuming I'm missing a sound barrier piece like the one pictured below in a C6. Is there a similar piece like this for the C5? Part number? If not I guess I'll have to find some type of sound proof material.

You are missing the rubber boot, it would help. Someone will chime in with a part number.

Yes, the C5 has a similar boot cover like the one in your C6 photo. Sometimes they are removed and/or modified when an aftermarket shifter is installed. Is your C5 shifter stock? You should be able to remove the leather shift boot by pressing inward on the tabs and lift it up far enough to see if the boot cover underneath it is there. If missing, there is considerable noise that comes up from the tunnel.

If that boot is missing or has a hole it will greatly increase the cabin noise. If you search, there's quite a few threads about it, and how much they help with noise.

After I got a bunch of work done to my car, I noticed A LOT of transmission noise, I thought it was my torque tube couplers, but came to find out the shop had ran my wideband wires through a HUGE GASH they put in the rubber seal, which is causing the noise.

It will be a PITA to put it in though. You'll have to take the stereo bezel off, and take the shifter **** off. Could take a few hours if its your first time, but should be well worth it. If you want a more aggressive/shorter shifter, this would be a great time to install one

My 2003 was missing this part as well. The dealer brought to my attention when they replaced the clutch.

The shifter boot mat makes an incredible difference, when I installed my new MGW shifter took if for a spin without the mat and thought the transmission was falling out. Could not believe that this little mat makes so much difference. Get one quick. lol.
