C5 Z06 and blue book values?
Hey guys. One of my first posts on here and I'm hoping to be a first time corvette owner soon. I've researched C5 and C6 Z06s and I think I'm going to go for the C5 because it offers the best bang for the buck at the moment. For me at least.
One thing I don't seem to understand though, is why so many people think they can sell theirs for over blue book? A lot of C6Zs I see are reasonably fair priced and close to blue book but it seems that most people with C5Zs think they're worth more than BB. It's not like the cars are collectables yet. And most argue that they're in such good shape etc etc etc and that's why they're asking so much. But the fact of the matter is, kbb accounts for its condition!
Prime example, there is a guy close to me selling a millennium yellow 2003 Z06 with only 2200 miles. He's asking 31,500 and has written up a whole massive article about why he thinks the car is worth that. But the blue book lists that same exact car in perfect condition for $27,3. Why on earth would anyone pay 31,5?
Am I missing something that maybe some of you Z06 owners can tell me?
Thanks guys!

You're not missing anything. Most people on the forum claim you can buy a 2004 with 500 miles for $15k.
I "overpaid" for my 2004 with 43k miles last year for $25k at a dealer.

Right. But if I go on NADA it's even less. That 2200 mile Z is worth 27,3 on KBB and only 24ish on NADA. Further demonstrating my dismay at how some people think they can ask what they are asking lol.

Funny thing is, these "overpriced" cars have been for sale for months.
Didn't mean to turn this into a rant about sellers lol. But just looking for input. Thanks guys

I have a 03 for sale with 32Kand asking $30G. I'm in no rush to sell it and doesn't really matter if I do or not because it's a awesome car. Do I think my price is high, YES. These cars are getting harder to find with lower miles and no/tasteful mods that hasn't had the snot beat out of it. But like everyone says, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay, no matter what a book says it's worth. Bottom line is, if you like the car, pay what you're comfortable with. If it's a little high, so be it. I paid a little more for my car as I knew the history and I liked the options and mileage. If you don't care about the mileage or what was done to it, you shouldn't have a problem finding one in the teens with higher miles

25 ish is where i would want to be price wise, maybe 26
then again i think the low mile cars are over priced. a 2009-2010 grand sport with the same mileage or slightly more mileage is 40ish
hell, here's a 2010 grand sport with 10k miles with a buy it now of 37.5 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Corvette-Grand-Sport-Coupe-2-Door-Grand-Sport-Excellent-Condition-4-000-off-Kelly-Blue-/151211024673?forcerrptr=true&hash=item2334e12121&item=151211024673&pt=US_Cars_Trucks
take note of it selling under book
i just couldn't see spending 30 on a c5z when 10 more gets me a new car
also would not be an easy car to get off of. there are guys who seek out low mile mint c5's but they usually know their markets. if i bought this car i would want to make sure i could sell it at a minimal loss a few years down the road. if the car has OE tires and the OE fuel filter those will need to be changed right out of the gate.

New -- No, Newer -- yes. Better? Probably not a sentiment shared in the C5Z section

some of you guys are true c5z diehards
and that's cool, don't get me wrong, i own a 2002 z and it's a fun car
i guess i just look at them more as 15-20k cars with more miles and rock chips rather than 30k cars with virtually no miles and mint paint, but, that's typically because so many potential buyers have the same view. unless you keep something for a long long time you always have to consider the market when you get off it
i'm sure there are guys out there willing to pay top dollar for a mint example, they just aren't that high in numbers

The C5Z will forever be in its own class because of the FRC body style and being top dog during the 5th generation. I could have purchased a C6Z years ago but just couldnt let go of my C5Z, theres just something about it that still makes me love it so much.. My coworker almost pulled the trigger on a '09 ZR1 last summer but at the last minute realized how much she still loves the FRC body style on her '03 Z06 and passed on it.. got a '13 CTS-V instead as a DD.
I too wouldnt even consider selling my '01 below $30K

Your car is actually worth $30k; my H/C/I, 20k-mile 2003 Z06, however, is not
You can get a low-mileage 04 Z16 for about $30k, so I wouldn't even CONSIDER $30k+ for the car you described
$25k sounds about right

I paid 27k for mine 4 years ago.... I wouldn't sell it for less than 35k. And i have way more than 8k in mods! LOL. But when it's all said and done. The cost of doing something similar, is way out of the league of what it would value with everything. But it's valuable to ME! And it's a very special car when I finish it....

I wouldn't pay what that guy is asking for his car, but he might find someone who will. You just never know what someone will pay for a car.
