The C5 really is becoming the C4

If it sounds like a Pickup truck that just increased its desirability in West Texas!

I've done a lot of mods to my 98 A4 (heads, cam, intake, exhaust, supercharger, converter, rear, etc.) I beat the $h1t out of my car and the only thing that has failed on the car is...the passenger side power window.

I don't know why the OP paints such a broad stroke on the C5 being anything like the C4. First off, the C5 shares nothing with the C4. Secondly, the way you refer to a C4 is like it was a maintenance nightmare or problematic. I've owned a ZR-1, LT1, and L-98. I'm here to tell you friend that the C4's in build quality may not be as good ad the C5 but, it is a well engineered car and has proven reliability and durability.
I'd say if all you have is a loose or broken exhaust bracket, count your blessings. You have a 15-year old car, with over a 100K mileage, parts do wear out. Your car is still drivable, do what you need to do to make the fix, and problem solved. Please...no more C5 bashing...That's not a good anecdote in this neck of the woods. Good luck...

I drove the '99 to work today. No major issues. It's just as loose feeling as it's been the last few years. Anyway, I get ready to go to lunch and start the car. It sounds like a race car/truck. I'm like WTF? My first thought was that someone stole my cats, but the parking lot is heavily traveled and a theif just can crawl under the car. I check under the car and it looks like one of the exhaust connectors has come loose! It doesn't look like it's rusted through, just looks like the nuts are missing. How could that happen? I won't be able to check for certain until I get home later, 31 miles away.
Now I'm dismayed and confused cause I always thought C5's were built so well that nothing ever went wrong...
Guess you boys here gotta check your nuts every once in a while as well....

Bought mine in 2007. In 2008 it became a c4 when the flange weld failed. It then became a 2003 ZO6 when I replaced the c4 exhaust with Ti exhaust off a z

Guess you got a lemon, My 04 C5 has 160K miles as my DD on it and all I've done is normal maintenance still drives like new. My C4 has 55k miles and gets beat on every time I drive it, no squeak's or rattle's still drives like new and will eat C5's for lunch.

You only think it drives like new because the gradual degradation has been unnoticeable to you. BTW, I drive a 2004 with 30k miles.

So let me get this straight. You are surprised that some exhaust flange bolts came loose on a 15 year old car? Seriously?
As others have suggested, maybe you should get yourself a brand new car and sell off that POS for scrap money. I'll take it off your hands.
What was GM thinking................they could've at least forged/machined the exhaust system out of a solid piece of titanium just to ensure that nothing came loose 15 years down the road......lol.

It looks like your C4 is modified. I guarantee you that there are MANY modified C5s out there that will eat your C4 for lunch AND dinner!

I'm sure there are My point is why post negative comments about any Corvette, they are all great cars C1-C7 and each generation gets better as they should

Everyone in here with no respect for the C4 should sell your corvette and move on to another make/model altogether.

Wow some of you in C5 really do wear azzhats talking smack about a different generation Corvette.
Its like..... your C4 racists or something.
Black02 makes a good point, maybe you should have your Corvette ownership revoked.
And forced to drive a Dodge truck until you learn to play nice.

That stated...I respect the C4 but-it doesn't mean I have to like it. I have worked on and ridden in several C4s. They are nice cars. I would rather own my C3 and C5. Its just my opinion and taste.
The C4 does take a ton of crap, its just the nature of the beast. I mean nothing personal its just my least favorite generation.

No, but if your girl has ugly family members you aren't exactly going to shun them. You will be nice and enjoy the one you like of the group. You should do the same with your car family. Besides, it's not like a C5 is something super special at this point so trying to talk down to other cars because you own a car with the value of a new Hyundai doesn't really fly.
Also, without the C4, there would be no C5. I don't have a huge desire to own a C4, but I had a picture of a red one in front of an American flag on my bedroom wall growing up. The first corvette I ever drove was also a green C4 when I was 15. Without them, I may have never had the desire to own a Corvette in the first place.

No, it's not the C4. But one suggestion I do have is to put your car up on a rack at least annually and give it a good visual and bump here and there. It's only your time and may very well save frustration in the end.
