Keep looking.

In broad general terms, there are two types of corvettes:

One that has had several owners, high miles, and perhaps not too well cared for -

The other being a one or two owner car, lower miles, and a pampered all its life car -

The price difference between the two is not all that great, seek the later, and avoid a dealer if at all possible as they are seeking unwarranted profits.

Now get to looking for that Corvette that is the perfect one for you ! It takes time, be willing to expand your seach area, and bump your price range up a bit -

Happy Hunting !

Well with any luck I'll be heading to Indianapolis to pick up a pretty 02 z06 this weekend. I believe I got a very good deal. Pretty excited to get it picked up!

I decided on this particular Corvette for 2 reasons. The insurance difference was $3 between a base, and a z06. The owner seems to be a car guru(and he is a good forum member), and has extensive knowledge of the cars history.

I agree. Make them an offer (if this car is really one you want), and tell the dealer the offer is good, until 1000am tomorrow. At 1001, the offer drops by $1500.
Be prepared to walk away.

And as another member posted, make an adventure of this. Shop, fly, drive. Your car is out there somewhere. Maybe just not in your hometown.
I found mine 900 miles away from my home. And had fun looking for it.

Welcome to the forum - - it sounds like you're on the right track.

Patience is indeed a virtue.

My other suggestion- whether you buy this car or not- is to find a local Corvette club or two and start going to meetings and events - - Cars in clubs are often for sale and certainly there's the opportunity to pick up information and opinions that will serve you in the long term.

Good luck!

I think I eventually expanded my search to 500 miles. I didn't want to fly and drive for a $15k car, but I could see doing it for something a little more. I ended up getting mine about 300 miles away. So worth it.

Be patient and look on Craigslist and cars.com. I bought a 97 with 26,000 miles a year and a half ago for 15k of an individual. I agree with many on here that a newer one is a better option but I couldn't pass up the deal I got for the mileage. Good luck.

Alright folks, flight is booked, check is written, flying to Indianapolis Friday evening to pick up this: 2002 Z06, 102k miles(this, to me, doesn't seem like a deterrent due to reports that I hear of this bulletproof engine) at(what I believe) is a very decent price.

Hope I don't run into snow on the way home!

Good for you! Whatever you paid for this car, DO NOT divulge the price on here. Worst thing you can do.

There are lots of them out there, a lot of sellers would wait until a little warmer weather to even advertise. Get on Autotrader, see what's out there.
