Default Z

Between the 2 options.....no brainer....take the Z.
However, for that money I might keep looking

I voted A because if all Vettes were stick shifts, I wouldn't have one. I had my fill of stick shift cars when I was a pup, and wouldn't consider another. I enjoy Driving my Vette top down, with an auto. It's plenty fast enough for me. Even a Vette with an auto can get ya into trouble real quick if you're not careful. I would have voted neither if that was an option, but the coupe has a pretty good price on it.

After owning a coupe and my current Z06, no contest. Z wins!

The only thing I miss about my coupe was the targa top. Z rides better, definitely performs better.

4L60E is a wide ratio automatic. Chances are when you floor it, you're not going to be in an ideal gear. With the T56, there's always a good gear for the occasion so yes, the A4 is still a horrible option as long as the T56 exists. Not everyone here is a waxer.
Not sure what you mean by "waxer", but I'm pretty sure it was snide and uncalled for. So you prefer a stick. Good on you. But there is no need to insult the rest of us or our rides.

Your point about the wide ratio is well taken, however. I read somewhere that the new auto in the C7z (yes auto), can shift in .008 seconds. That may change a few minds.

waxer isn't really snide. it's a literal term for the guys who buy corvettes and never drive them to their potential

they just wash, wax, and cruise them

Curious, what are EBCM issues?

Thanks for the explanation. It sounded to me like a derisive tone towards anyone 'stupid' enough to drive an auto. Then again, I could be over-sensitive.

Ain't forums fun?

I would pass on them both. You can find a better deal on a coupe. It may be a few dollars more, but with less miles. Same with the Z.

if I was going to spend 16K and couldn't find a Z in that range, I would look for a newer coupe with fewer miles. You CAN find a newer coupe with fewer miles for 16K.

But don't let the EBCM on the 97-2000 scare you off. Mine is out and other than the lights being on it's a non issue for me. First car I ever had with it actually. So if it doesn't work who gives a ****?

The 01 Z also had oil consumption issues. Not sure what the cause was but if you are concerned about future issues, that would scare me more than an EBCM going out.

Bottom line,

Keep looking in my opinion.

PLEASE CHOOSE BASED ON VEHICLE AND PRICE WHICH ONE IS BEST FOR THE MONEY. INTERIOR IS COMPARABLE THE 99 HAS HUD AND Z06 DOES NOT.I DONT THINK THE AUTO OR STICK WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE I HAVE TEST DRIVEN BOTH AND CANT MAKE A DECISION ON WHICH.

1) OPTION A. Black Leather Interior . COST $9400
Automatic transmission
120,100 miles
Clear Targa-top removable roof (has small chip-see picture)
Heads-Up Display
JVC DVD player w/ factory Bose system
Z06 Wheels
Tinted Windows
Religiously cared for- Full Synthetic oil every 3k miles
Front end painted every 2 years
Always Garaged
Cool Air Intake

Occasionally, tire monitor system and windshield wiper fluid sensor report error that they need to be serviced

OPTION 2. 2001 C5 Z06 PRICE $16000

91K MILES,
MANUAL AS YOU KNOW.
AFTERMARKET RADIO
AFTERMARKET COLD AIR INTAKE
STOCK OTHER THEN THAT SEE PICTURES
I've had 2 C-5 Coupes with Automatics and the transmission is probably the best part of the car. C-5s are plagued with common problems. Unless you like working on it, I'd opt for something else. I prefer the coupe over the convertible because it's quieter, the top won't rot and you still get the open air driving of the convertible.
