Default engine runs warm and no heater until...

02 z06 it starts to run warm steadily increasing over 220, I then down shift and puch into it. The engine temp drops rapidly back down to normal 180-186 range and heater works again. Thinking it was a Sticking thermostat I change it, but didnt fix the problem. Any ideas??

try a coolant system flush procedure. or snake some of your coolant bi-ways. sounds like when you punch it it gets all the backed up coolant running around

did you check coolant levels in the radiator? sound like it has air in the system or the the coolant is low. check the water pump for leaking and noise, could be a bad water pump but from the sounds of it i would suspect air in the system.

Clean the radiator and AC condenser, they get packed full of crap and cause over heating. you will be supprised what gets caught up in there. remove the radiator shroud and used AIR and Water to clean out. there are a few threads on here about how to do it.
