Am I asking for it '99 FRC
I have been looking for a modestly priced FRC for a while. I have the opportunity to buy a very well maintained '99 FRC which was owned by 2 owners. Both owned the car for equal amounts of time (7 plus years) putting equal mileage on the care. 54,000 miles on the clock (roughly 3600 miles per year). Car color is torch red, no fades, cracks or scratches, factory chrome wheels, garage kept, very clean interior and 75% tire life. Is $16,500 a decent price to pay? I have been looking at lower mileage cars that were in the 18k and 19k range. Thanks for your help.

Any aftermaket upgrades? Exhaust, intake, brakes ect. Condition and market in your area would be the deciding factors. I bought mine 3 years ago with 49k in good condition with some up-grades for less but the market and economy was a little more dismal at that time.

No aftermarket pieces. Bone stock, not any added factory options. Very basic but clean.

There was a black '99 FRC on craigslist here for $19k a few months ago. Looks like they dropped the price a little since I looked at it.
'99 FRC with Z06 wheels for $17k

Seems like a fair price for the miles.

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. If you like this car and it is what you have been looking for and you have the money. Get it and go on with your life. You are going to love it.

If the car is mechanically and cosmetically sound and it is what you want, the price isn't too bad. Maybe a little high and you might offer less to see if they would take it. The C5 is a pretty reliable platform.

The mileage is insignificant. A well maintained C5 LS1 should be able to easily see 200K. We have hundreds of members with 300K and 400 K.
Do you feel the car is worth the money?
Does the car have any maintenance records?
Do you know either of the previous owners?
How much of the previous ownership is documented?
Does the car have any trouble codes? either currant or history?
Are the tires run flats?
Do they have tire pressure sensors?
There is no such thing as Factory chrome wheels. They do however have factory wheels ( known as wagon wheels ) that have been chromed by a non factory chroming company. The quality of some of these chrome plating companies are not as good as others.

i wouldn't pay that
you could get an 01 z06 with similar mileage for 17, 18 at most
at 16k you could still find a higher mileage 01, maybe 02 z06
the FRC is just missing so many things vs the z06
you also have that expensive ebcm in the 99 car

150k on my FRC, I paid 11 k last year with 146k on it, clean almost perfect interior , some bumps and scratches. I bought it to drive not look at. Don't burn a drop of oil, 31 mpg on the highway , 405 hp to the rears, installing long tubes this winter for another 30 hp , pulls hard and waxes stock Zs regular
I'm very happy with the car, it's a blast to drive. My advice is to find the car you like and work your best deal based on what you want to spend .
Personally I wouldn't spend over 13k on a stock FRC, and 20k max on a sweet Z06. Wait a bit and prices will come down a bit more, it's a new year

you have to be patient, check craigslist 3x per day, check all the other sites as well. they come up
realistically 16k should get you a 1-2 owner 2001 z06 with around 80k miles, always garaged and needing nothing.
buying a 80, 100, 120k mile car is fine provided they are all stock, have records and generally are cared for and not driven like a raped ape 24-7

I read what others posted as far as value- but don't see the market the same way. In the southeast or southwest, that price for that car- unadultered and well maintained seems entirely reasonable. Do it.
A buddy of mine here has a pristine 99FRC with 30k miles advertised for slightly more then that but didn't get a lot of bites and has decided to keep it and add some of his own appearance and performance mods- I expect to see a supercharger before long.
You don't indicate if this will be your first Vette- if it is, suggest you get someone knowledgeable in C5/6 to give it a good look with you - - but on the basics, it sounds like a sweet car and a reasonable price.

I have to agree with the more positive responses. I currently own my second '99 (both 'coupes though) and they both have been two of the most solidly reliable and enjoyable cars I have ever owned!
I paid approximately the same price as you stated for my current one 1 1/2 yrs. ago with about 68k on it and I feel I got a decent price as all I have had to do is drive and enjoy it. It has over 80k on it now. I did put a new set of tires on recently, and do regular oil changes. Also, I drive mine year 'round here in Colorado (no road salt) and as long as you drive intelligently it's no problem at all. It still looks like new and it's black which some would say is harder to keep looking that way.
I would say get it, drive it, and enjoy the hell out of it. I think the '99s are the best year of all!!
Just my $0.02.
