Default Water and the Vararam

Have the Vararam intake in my C5.....
Anyone have any experience in driving in rain and if the Vararam and the filter keeps the water out of the engine intake?
What do I need to look for or is there any concerns?

same here. I was in a 8 hour downpour from my hometown in MO to OKC with no issues with the VR. Just avoid deep standing water like you would with any intake.

Had the VRB2 for many years now, (35K miles plus). Drivin through hours of thunder storms on the Interstate. Never a problem. Best true cold air intake out the for the C5! Like someone said above,,,,deep water is bad for any CAI no matter the style, even stock!

I have had mine for over a year and half now..been in downpours and like others I avoid large puddles of water...even when I got to the hotel I have checked my intake filter and it was dry...so no issues or concerns from me!!

No issues. All gains.

Just don't go diving the Vette through standing water at unknown depths or you risk a lockup.

Also, keep an eye on your seals in between teh "clam" casing that surrounds the filter.

Suggest always have a spare filte ron hand so when old filter is filthy, pull out and swap in new filter without delay. Clean old filter, reoil, and set aside for next swap out.

People have been obsessing about this very thing so many times over the years, I have lost track.
I don't know of a SINGLE case of a hydro-locked C5 engine that was equipped with a VR.

Not ONE.

There was one last year or early this year. But it still boils down to bad decision making by the driver. If you choose to submerge your car knowing the intake is low then you deserve what happens. I personally have never hydrolocked any car that I've owned.

I know of one several years ago...car sitting at light, big truck splashes standing water into a wave that was powerful enough and enough volume to lock motor with car not even in the water that was thrown on c5, standing water about 4 inches...rare but can happen

As has been already said, as long as you do not go driving through some deep standing water, there should be no concerns with running a Vararam on the car.

If you don't take your C5 into deep water....it's not a concern. If you do take it into deep water, you have more serious problems than a vararam.

I've bought 2 cars with that intake. Both with broke rods from hydro lock. Don't drive in standing water is all I can say.

Like said before, avoid standing water, otherwise the intake just becomes a straw pretty much

Never had a problem in the rain with mine. Even got caught in a very bad rain storm this past summer at the beach that started to flood the roads within minutes. I was forced to drive through some very very large puddles of standing water in order to get the car into a safe parking lot and off the road, and I had no issues ( it was however nerve racking and ill advised).

Look at the hundreds of forum threads that state this is a "possibility" but, never documents a single case that it actually happened.

I made the install several years ago - and had a 'concern' about the monsoons we get in the southwest - MAJOR down pours in a very short period of time. with standing water everywhere. No problems with driving rains, but I wouldn't drive into something deep enough to cover the intakes.
