Default headlight problem?

Just bought a c5, drivers side headlight is stuck in the up position and the passenger one goes up and down but not all the way down? does anybody think its the motor or the gear?

Thanks

I would say most likely gear issues. Are you able to manually move them?

What is your location? Maybe there is someone in your area that would be able to take a look at it with you.

Were you able to pull the caps off the actuators and move them both ways? Maybe a gear tooth has broken off and jamming the gear.

so i check the lights, i can manually bring the light down and up no problem, the last owner said it was making a noise then stopped working, what you think it is, is it the motor?

also did you ever have a problem with the window loose in the door when its down , what causes it?

and last thing whats the passive mode for the clicker ?

Thanks

From what you describe it sounds like a classic gear failure. The nylon teeth break. When you move them manually the gear moves around and because of the slower speed is picking up the good teeth. When it works under power the missing teeth prevent it from engaging properly and that's when you get the "machine gun" noise.

Look in the DIY sticky and there's a post on how to change the gears.

Passive mode was a function on the key fob which meant it operated passively without needing to hit the unlock button. It was discontinued quite early, about 99 IIRC.

That would suggest the gears are shot and just rotating without making contact. Its not impossible that its a motor issue but check the gears first

Might as well just change both gears at the same time.

I have not had the window issue you mentioned. Maybe the regulator is loose?
