Stay Away From CarToys
The day after I bought my 2000 coupe last year I was down at my local CarToys purchasing nearly $3000 worth of custom stereo for my new car. Their so-called world-class, award winning installer hand-picked every piece of equipment that went into my car. Here it is a year and a half later and four of the six speakers I purchased are blown. After doing some checking with Dennis at Double D it turns out that the speakers they sold me are way underpowered for the amplifier that I purchased at the same time.
I went up to the store today and was basically told that since the speakers are six months out of warranty that I'm **** out of luck.
It didn't matter that the speakers are clearly 35w RMS and the amplifier puts out 75w RMS, nor the fact that it was their employee who picked them out, nor the fact that I never should have been sold the speakers to begin with. They're more worried about the $100 worth of speakers (I can replace the speakers that they now sell for $129/pair for $50/pair from Amazon) than they are the negative press that they're going to receive as a result from screwing a formerly loyal customer over.
Learn from my lesson, tell your friends and family, and stay away from CarToys. They don't care about you as a customer; they only care about your wallet.

The court fees would cost more than the speakers are worth. I'll just do everything I can to hurt their business instead by spreading news of how they treat customers.

Man oh man, that simply blows. Don't think we have one of those here in my locale but rest assured, I will not be buying anything from Cartoys. And you can pass this on to them. Just really glad we have Dennis here on CF, someone that can be trusted AND gives great deals. Thanks for the heads-up Ed.

I wish I still knew the guy who runs their payroll department, but it's been years since I've spoken to him and I don't have his number anymore. I do have a call in to the corporate headquarters though, I'm just waiting for them to call me back.

I feel an order to Dennis coming up soon too (but you already were aware of that). However, I might have to take your advice on the power of the unit we talked about. I like to heed advice of folks that have more knowledge than me. I'll be making a decision shortly.

with most things in life these days businesses just move products. it's rare you find anyone who really has an education in what they sell. the only places that seem to are small local businesses that really live and breathe what they do everyday

Dennis would know better than I; you might want to call him and let him know what your plans are. He won't give you bad advice.

I don't see anything in this thread that indicates they did anything wrong. Wattage is only one factor in selecting components. Sorry you're unhappy but it sounds like you didn't know what you were buying.. perhaps CarToys could have done a better job at explaining to you why they selected the components.

Careful Ed... Your starting to sound like another grumpy old man we know. ...
That sucks though honestly. Sorry to hear about your loss due to their mistake !

I almost purchased a remote start system with them installing for my truck a couple days ago from Rockwall Cartoys. Something made me nervous while talking to the salesman and I ended up walking out. Glad I did now. I think I am going to end up having the stealership install a factory system instead.

I had a problem with them as you have experienced except I had not spent as much money as you did. They refused to help me so I kept going to the store and was being very verbal about the problem when they had customers present. When they asked me to leave the store I told them that I was going to make a sign up and stand outside every day[ I'm retired] until they gave me my money back. They caved in and paid me,but I have never stopped denouncing them.

Sorry you had the bad dealings with that place. Hate it when someone sells you something, it is basically a wrong item to begin with, then they don't stand behind their product. Dennis will treat you right and you can bet the parts he sells will be OK.
