excellent info.
Q. the T rex cams was recommened to by a friend that had one, comp cams recommended this one- 228/230-.571/.573 LSA 112, so basically what you (TECH and racebum) are saying is that i am better of with a lower cam for what i want to do?
thanks, very good detailed info.

There are a number of shops that specialize in LS1 engines. Give any one of them a call and chat with 'em.
If you're looking for help to get started, you can try calling Texas Speed or Speed Inc. Links below.

Melting Slicks
They are both wear items. The LS7 lifter is now the standard replacement lifter for LS1/2/6/non DOD LS3's. They are about $130 IIRC. The buckets are there to keep the lifter from turning sideways in the bore - which is very very bad. The buckets are a couple $$ each and cheap insurance.
Why replace them now? You're in there anyways and if the bigger cam stresses the originals and they have to be replaced, you have to take the heads off to get to them.

FWIW: I ran a 230-236 112 +2 XE-R lobed cam in my 346 build. The car made 460/424 and was extremely drivable. That was with heads comparable to what you will be running. I took it on long trips and used it to commute here in Washington, DC rush hour and it ran like a raped ape WFO. This was with a well ported FAST 90/90 setup.
I sold that top end and cam to my bud JACKS996 here and he got the same numbers on his build.
BTW: Brian Tooley has some very good springs at a very good price.

this is actually a descent set up cam i have a custom cam grinded down similar to this and the car pulls awesome through out the powerband, one thing about cams i learned is that you have to know where you want your power to be at, there are some cams that give better torque and some cams that give out better top end, it really comes down to what YOU want for your car, sound will come with your exhaust and headers cam choice should be based on how your going to drive your car and how you want it to breathe. hope this helps

Seems I have about your exact set up.. LS6 Heads...LS6 intake ...Long Tube Headers..high flow cats...Corsa Catback....Good street tune..I am running a Comp Cams 230/232 with .595 lift on a 110 LSA. Car runs great.. pulls really strong..has choppy idle.. sounds really mean.. very drivable...and gets 29 mpg on the highway!!!
Perfect street cam imho...

Never had it dyno'ed... The guy that did my street tune is very versed in the LS platform. He says with all the mods I have and the tune he installed he thinks it should be in the 415 to 420 RWHP. 480 to 485 at the crank. I would say that should be close with my mods, but you never know until you actually dyno it!

If you plan to drive around at 4000-6000 rpm all the time, then a big cam is what you want.
If you want TORQUE for the street, then a medium sized cam is best.
My LS6 build focused primarily on TORQUE.
I'm at 471/441 to the rear wheels now.
Perfectly drivable, and not hard on the springs.
No surging or other issues you see on big cams.
Just my opinion.
Good luck on your build !

What do you consider a large cam and a medium sized cam? Seems if you go with a cam on the large side of medium you can grab some of that low end torque back with the long tube headers? Curious what your overall setup is to achieve the 471/441...

What up Toque! Always liked your ride. So what size cam do you run?

Thanks guys.
Its been a fun, reliable setup for me.
That was my goal.
I don't need to be the fastest guy on the block.
I built my car like "I" wanted it to be.
Cammedvette:
I have been told the same that the AFR heads are a big part of the gains. They flow very well.
I gained 20rwhp and 15wrtq from the Fast 92/LS2 TB.

I looked into the Fast while doing my build but I couldn't afford the AFR heads like I wanted!! The Fast will not gain me near that much when paired with the LS6 heads I went with. Got a killer deal on brand new never used LS6 heads, and really liked the idea of "factory reliable power". Like you I don't need to be the fastest on the block, but I have found there aren't many faster around me!!!
