Default Video: ABS Saves Deer from 60 mph Corvette Impact

I was cruising to work the other day and a deer crossed my path while I was doing 60. Hit the brakes, ABS kicks in, deer ran by, 'Vette's OK - life is good. Here's the view in various speeds:

Background: In preparation for a few track events coming up, I am testing a new videocam setup by recording my daily commute - that's how I happen to have a video of this event. Further, I had been practicing threshold braking. About a quarter mile up the road, there's a high visibility section with little to no traffic at that time of the morning - that's why I knew I was driving 60 - I was preparing for my threshold test.

Turns out my test was early, my car's intact, and Bambi had yet another breakfast with her family.

Good video.

Deer can quickly jump out in front of you. Glad you and the car are ok.

Your video reminded me that a couple years ago I came over a hill in my Corvette and had one standing in my lane. I missed him, but another one jumped out. I hit him at about 65 mph. He came back over the hood and the pop up headlights flipped him over the roof. It was an exciting few momemets and several thousands in repairs.

I've been told deer and fiberglass do not mix. Glad you didn't have to find out!

My closest encounter this week was with a coyote. He stood on the side of the road and watched the cars go by...

Any deer hit by a Vette square on is a possible death sentence for driver/passenger. The Vette is low and a 80 lbs. deer could take out the entire winshield and all behind it. Nice driving.

Anytime I drive I never forget that. In Oklahoma, 300,000 plus deer are harvested just by hunters every year.

Over the years I have read/heard about a car that hits a deer and sends it into the oncoming car in which the deer goes through the windshield and kills the front seat occupant/s. Usually the collision happens so quickly that you figure out what happened afterwards.

Deer are just so stupid not to look to see something is coming at them. Only if they had a little common sense

Yeah, what a dumb place to put a deer crossing.
