Default so I think I just totalled my first vette! :(

so I was on my way home from our work picnic and it was raining a little bit. after the second red light, I turned left and got on it and ended up breaking loose on the wet road (forgot my traction control was off....I know, STUPID!!!). Anyways, went off the road and hit a telephone pole and a couple of trees! GRR Grr GRR!!! i'm ok, just a busted up pride and ego. inside of my left ankle will be pretty bruised (still weakling fine) and brush burn on my left shoulder from seat belt.
airbags were deployed and I'm assuming it will be totaled.

fortunately, I haven't had an accident it quite some time and have "accident forgiveness" with $100 deductible from allstate. I'm just hoping they treat me fairly with the $$.
should I see if I can buy the car back and part it out or just cut my losses? it's 99% stock
I must say, I'm impressed with the response time of the local departments. within 5 minutes the fire truck, ambulance and police were there. within 10 minutes, the news was there LOL

are insurance usually pretty generous? it is paid off , 1998 w/ 67k miles.

here are some pics a few minutes after!

Glad your ok,Can't tell from the first pic if the frame is bent or if its the fender that makes it look as though the frame is bent or broken. But yes that is certainly alot of damage.Still alot of good parts on the car if they total it, which it looks like it very well could be.

Yup - that would hurt my pride & ego too.
I can see the headline.... 'Man loses control of Corvette - hits telephone pole and trees'... sub headline.. 'But he took some great pictures of the wreck'.

Glad you're OK.

been reading horror stories online about insurance companies screwing people on totaled claims. I'm really hoping that they don't try to hose me. I have full coverage with allstate, haven't had an accident in probably 10 years, not tickets in 6-7 years. "book" values are all over the place from $9k to $21k LOL

I feel it is one of the cleanest cars I've owned, especially for it's age. all paint is very shiny, no damage (inside or out) completely stock other than the air cleaner and stereo....although I did just have the harmonic balancer replaced with a hi performance one (there goes $600!!!!).
I'm wondering if they will let me keep the painted top? I have the glass one in my garage. I'm definitely going to take some things before they haul it away if it is totaled.
they better let me take the amp (maybe speakers too LOL), my air fileter (I will give them my stock one) and the front licens plate filler that I just bought! LOL

anyone have any or know of any recent experiences with insurance claims on vettes?
1998 w/67k miles, auto, dual power sport seats w/ memory, bose, ??
I just want enough to buy another one!!!!

First, I'm glad you're not hurt!

Now on to the well deserved flaming. You knew you'd get some posting this, so I appreciate in advance you being a good sport about it.

So, putting on the lead shoe while on a wet road and no traction control? Yeah, a serious lapse in judgment. Sorry to hear.

From your thread title, it almost sounds like you've totaled other cars before? (or you're assuming/planning you may total another Vette someday?)

Ok, I'm done...and am really just kidding.

Hope you learned a good lesson and are into a new vette before long!

Not to make light of this terrible situation, but I am an Insurance Agent with a different company.
Typically they will not "screw you". They will try their hardest to indemnify you (get you mostly back to where you were prior to the accident with allowing you to be better than before..You can't PROFIT from insurance, hence indemnity). They will offer you a settlement that you wont be jumping for joy over, but neither will they. You each have a little give and take. What tickets or lack of, is of NO consequence on THIS claim. You aren't costing them a fortune so you probably won't see but a slight, if any, rise in your rates THIS TIME. Next time (God forbid) you will.
What IS nice is that you get first option to buy the car back at a reasonable amount on the dollar, so you can part it out and make a few bucks or keep some of the things that you upgraded if you choose.
Some things can be removed, but you better have something in its place (i.e. hi performance harmonic balancer). You need to have SOMETHING on it if you do NOT intend to buy it back.
Hopefully this gives you some insight.

I just want another nice vette they have already said this will not increase my rates . I will more than likely just see if I can swap my air filter, Targa top and remove the stereo extras. What is reasonable for a price for me to buy it back?
