Sure, when I'm on the track, I try to increase my overall top speed from previous runs, but when it comes down to it, unless you're on an air strip or are at Bonneville, how long can one enjoy a top speed? Seconds, at best.

My twenty-five minute daily commute is a thrill ride that rarely tops 59 mph.

It does. But then I got another job because, guess what? I found out after retiring at 51, I still needed money! So I went back to work - at an elementary school.

Stock '02 Coupe A4, 188 mph:

However, it is not the speed, that thrills me, its the acceleration:

I did 157 in my 1988 c4. Have not been able to find a place to stretch the c5's legs above 100 yet. First summer with the car.

Yes. I've never taken it up any faster than what it can do on the dragstrip. The funny thing is that I've never really thought about going faster. I've been focused on making it as quick as it can be without a lot of mods. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a 3:73 differential so maybe after I get it in I will try to find somewhere to run it for top speed. It will be interesting to see what it will do because I seem to have been lucky and got an ls1 that runs stronger than most. I have an a4 with the 3:15 axle ratio and other than tuning the engine and trans it is basically stock. With an X pipe and a T.I. exhaust and completely stock air filter it is consistently running 12:87 to 12:97 at 110 to 112 mph. that is where it has been the last 8 runs. I have been told that is strong for an 04 coupe. I doubt the gears will have much of an effect on top speed. They may help it go a little faster on a top speed run. Either way it will stop gaining speed when it runs out of power not rpm.

160-170mph in a c4 no less. that was a scary ride. haven't taken the z06 over 140

straight line speed doesn't really excite me much though. i get off on running multiple laps within a couple tenths of each other and setting up my brake points and lines perfect. that's a rush in my world

touched 120. I was in a 65mph zone behind 2 tractor trailers and a suv doing 60. Poked my head around for a clear view and saw the open road in a passing zone. Before i cleared the last truck I glanced down and saw the 120. I could not believe it. It was very smooth and even with windows down it was not bad. That was my 1st experience with anything over 90. It will almost assuredly be my last due to the negative possibilities (arrest, fines, accidents..etc) but whew, that thing will go and basically stock. I realize now when you mash the gas and hold it, you better hang on .....60 to 120 in seconds!

I just found this video on an old harddrive. This was a topspeed-run of a stock 2002 Corvette Coupe with the targa top removed...! Highest speed was 184mph on the AUTOBAHN!

Mine is a stock '99 A4 2:73 rear no mods. I nailed it hard on a clear safe stretch and passed 130 VERY quickly..smooth as silk..lots left but I lifted to be on the prudent side.

Plenty fast enough for me.
