Hit an alligator on the way home after picking up my new vette
I just bought a beautifully well kept 2003 MY Z06 from a great guy near St Louis. I flew up there Saturday morning, signed the papers then was off driving it back home in the New Orleans area. This is about a 10 hour drive.
About 2 hours from home at 10:30 PM I am on a lonely stretch of I-55 in MS following a pick up truck. Pitch black, no street lamps in that area. The pickup changes to the left lane then BOOM! I hit the "alligator". Not a real one, but that is what people call those tractor trailer truck tire remnants from blowouts. It was a BIG piece and ruined the nose of my beautiful vette!
Of course I am thankful I didn't get a blowout at 70 mph and the car is getting repaired soon.
The previous owner took meticulous care of this car and made this middle age guy have a big grin on his face..... until the gator. LOL
This is my third vette. Pics after it gets fixed.

Well the 2002 Torch Red Z06 was my first vette. Then I had a 2007 Velocity Yellow coupe. I just bought a 2003 Millenium Yellow Z06. No pics yet though.

Tough break hitting that piece of tire. Best of luck to you getting the car repaired.

Drifting
Had a close call behind a one of those trucks pulling trailer full of concrete. His back right dually blew out while he was in left lane just ahead of me. Huge pieces of the tire blew across my path but I managed to avoid them by driving onto the shoulder. That was the closest I've come to getting nailed by one of those things.

Hitting one of those scares the hell outta me. The number of these out there is just crazy. Road crews can't even begin to keep up with them. They need to outlaw semi-truck retreads, or there needs to be some serious changes in the way they are made.
I usually try to give vehicles I cannot see around, or through more distance so I have time to react.
