Default Tall Guy Z06 question

As I'm looking to upgrade my 2000 C5 6MT coupe to a C5Z, I started noticing I could not find any with a telescoping wheel. Upon further review, it looks like perhaps it was not even an option on the Z?

I have it on mine and love it. I'm 6'-5", two-hundo and luckily not all torso. I don't think I would be able to find a comfortable position without it. I have the seat all the way back, fully reclined and the wheel all the way back. Fits like a glove.

If this is not an option on any, I may just keep the C5 or look for a C6 with their prices starting to come down.

With all due respect, question was if no Z's came with telescopic column. Just would like a definitive answer.

Not trying to be a wise guy. I have never seen it as an option on a Z06 and was just agreeing with your assessment.

Yep, no problem. Wasn't trying to be a wise guy either. Hey, let's leave that over on the C7 forum. Brutal over there.

I am pretty sure that it was not an option. They left things like that out of the Z to save weight.

Silver is correct. The telescoping wheel is not an available option on the Z06.

To keep the weight down, the telescopic steering wheel was never an option on the C5 Z06. I'm in the same boat as you, harrydunn. Am 6'4" tall. Keep my seat all the way down and back with the telescopic wheel all the way out on my '99 coupe. Very comfortable. Don't think I'd purchase a modern vehicle without the option. Is amazing that the Mustang, as far as I know, still does not have a telescopic steering wheel.

I'll have to try one on for size sometimes. Is there less headroom in the FRC? I'm right at the limit in my coupe.

I actually try to wear loafers when I drive the Vette instead of a fat-soled sneakers. Gives me a little more room and I can "feel" the pedals much better, especially with a 6MT. Maybe I should wear some of those aqua socks.

I am 6'-6", weight 230 #'s and own a 2004 Z06 - Z's did not come with telescoping steering columns to save weight - I FIT fine.

Here is a mod I am going to do ( driver seat only ) to gain some head room =

NOTE: I have been told that the 2001's ( Z06 ) head liner is thinner and you have more head room, 2002 - 2004 can with a thicker one and less head room.

You will get used to it real quick. A Z is just so much more fun to drive you will forget all about the telescoping wheel.

I never thought about this but I'm assuming the Z06 column would be situated more in the middle range in/out. I guess in my head I'm seeing a steering wheel tucked closely to the dash but that doesn't make much sense. Still need to try one on. We don't get too many for sale around here.

This might help; from the face of the dashboard right next to the trunk release switch to the face of the steering wheel closest to the driver measures approximately 7 3/4 inches.

Excellent. I'll set mine there tonight and see if I can live with it. I'm guessing I can.

We don't need no stinking telescoping steering wheels!

6'-5" 228 lb here. 36" inseam, size 15 feet. My seat isn't all the way back. Just play with the recline a bit and you should be able to adjust a nice driving position. The easy entry is a help though.
