Default Wheels, forged or rotary forged?

I'm trying to decide what to do next on my car. Id like to go with big brakes but because of the 17" rims up front find little choices. I looked at going with a set of forged rims, maybe 18's front and back or 18, 19's and tubbing the back for wider tires. The Oz forged rims were better then a 1,000 per wheel as apposed to TSW wheels which are rotary forged for say 300 per wheel. I have the original rotary Speedlines on the car now and most the guys here claim they're very strong, any ideas about the quality of the TSW wheels?

Thanks R

they aren't bad but they aren't at the same level as the forged OZ wheels or the rays wheels

you're also talking 33 cents on the dollar

people don't often debate the two since they are in two different worlds price wise

Also becareful with 18's on the front. Not all 18's clear big break upgrades. Some guys get an extra set of rear c5z's and put them on the front. They clear at least c6z breaks and a good upgrade

I saw a guy locally that had done that but the offset let the tire stick out past the fender, not a fan of that and couldn't see away of correcting it.

I've had TSW's Interlagos for 6 months now. The clear coat they use is cheap, but the wheels are lightweight and stylish, and they come in the proper sizes/offsets. I'm still very happy with the purchase. I sure as hell wasn't gonna spend between $3k and $5k on new forged wheels.

Now, if you can find a good deal on a used set of forged/machined wheels - that would be the best of both worlds. If you're not in a hurry, I say keep a close eye on the C5 Parts For Sale subforum and your local regional subforum.

i bought a set of tsw rings and painted them in my back yard with a true basecoat clearcoat. the stock matte finish was a single stage and so crappy you could scratch it with your fingernail. made great primer to spray on top of though

like the op, i was just tired of no good tire choices for the OE wheels and wanted to run the michelin pss

The centers on my Fikse FM10s are rotary forged. Good to know they aren't on the same level as "quality" wheels

I don't think he was ******* RF in general. I took his comments to just mean that TSW can't compete quality-wise with the more expensive multi-piece forged wheels. They're a great bang-for-the-buck, though.

I had the interlagos from TSW and thought they were a great set of wheels. I guess any time something is a great value people will always want to assume it's junk.

Cool. Good to know. Had no idea Fikse wheels weren't good wheels to use for motorsports use.

okay

your passive aggressive thing here is kind of pathetic

I'm aware of the various ways wheels are made. You are always the first responder to bash TSW and rotary forging in general. Perhaps you had a bad experience, or maybe you just like to talk down to others, who knows.

Forgot to mention, my entire point was that some "high end" manufacturers also use the RF process.

No one is saying they're junk, just that they're not as nice as the high end multipiece forged wheels. This seems to be a difficult concept for you.

Check out IForged. They are stamp forged, one piece and are as light as they get. I paid around $4k for a set of 18/19's several years ago so the price has probably gone up. Just remember you get what you pay for in any wheel. I installed a set of Baer Eradisport rotors on my Z and wanted the strongest and lightest wheel I could find as I was looking to have the least amount of un-sprung weight possible.
