Default A new Business Sedan. Attn MSG

Wasn't on my list but after the rave reviews of this car, perhaps the new 2014 Impala could be considered.

Check out the review. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/consum...161700238.html

Question though, why didn't GM put the best of the new Chevy SS and this car together in one dynamite sportcar minded business sedan?

I thought that is what the forthcoming SS is intended to be? A sports minded sedan with 400+ hp. At $44k almost double what I paid for my Impala SS new in 1995. I am considering the new SS myself. Our 95 SS has been my wife's daily driver for 18 years. 192k on the odometer and I still enjoy the car. Some kid tries to buy it every time we go to the gas station.

I'm kind of confused. The SS is a model? Not just a package upgrade? If it is a model, what does it look like? Thanks.

The proper police package will be more widely available this fall/winter also.

Had a chance to ride in an LS3 powered RWD impala cruiser last November. I wouldn't call it hairy. It felt like "refined" power. But it moves FAST.

It is a model unto itself with only a couple of options, a sunroof is the only major option available. I've some pics somewhere....

I spoke to a Kentucky State Trooper who rolled through a local car show last month. He is in love with his Chevy cruiser. Doesn't miss his Crown Vic at all. He called it a very balanced package of power and handling. Not exactly the same car at all to the new SS but should indicate what one can expect.

Looks like some C7 influence inside. The interior of my 95 SS was it's weakest link.

I was honored by my friend who wanted me to experience the car and give him my feedback. He's a Sergeant now in the state capitol and runs 1/4 of the city. The city has been considering which replacements to invest in after the Crown Vics go. Coincidentally, they got the last 20+ new ones from a batch out of Chicago's supply.

So one a partly wet and later dry night we went tear-assing all over the city. A little bit of drag racing. Some fast corners. Mixed road surfaces. Off-road. Over some curbs. Not beating it at all, just putting it through the paces. I came away respecting what they had built. However, I suggested the V8 model would suit the purposes of a State Trooper or Interceptor best. In city usage.... with guys who drive Hondas or a Prius to work.... I had images of V8 Impalas spinning and sliding and wrecking all over the place. Who would think it, but I endorsed the 6 cylinder.

Apparently, and I have not compared personally, but the Impala has greater usable interior space than the Taurus so I bet it will see greater market share than the 90s edition.

The new Impala is a very nice car. Got to test drive one at Bloomington Gold and was very impressed with the car.

The new Impala certainly looks better than the previous version which IMO had more of a "land yacht" look to it.

Too bad I had such bad experiences back in the 90s with GM sedans. I called out a Lemon Law on a 92 Lumina and then had a lot of problems with a 93 Pontiac Grand Prix. At the time, I swore off GM and remember laughing that the only GM product I would ever consider would be a Corvette.

It really just doesn't do anything for me in the looks department. I really liked the pre-2005 models (all of them), but since then they've become really vanilla IMO.

Hate to say it, but I'd rather take a Ford, the Taurus SHO is actually a very nice car in all respects. I don't own one, but if I was in the market for a sporty sedan, I would either buy it or a slightly older Jaguar in the same price range.

sat in the new impala at the ny auto show in april, impressive, ive seen a few LTZ's around and they sure look wayyyy more up class then the previous fwd models (huge 94-96 fan)
i also saw the new ss there, it was nice but not sporty enough looking to me.

ive been in both the new taurus and the explorer police cars, they suck straight up, taurus was cramped and lacked the feeling of a strong car like the crown vics did. the explorer was spacious but lacked any ***** (we have the non ecoboost)
