Roadtrip in the z06..
Wife and I are driving up to Tennessee this weekend from Texas and spending a week in a cabin. We were going to take her car since it's a little 4-door with a spare tire, but then I got to thinking that it might be fun to take the z06 and maybe stop in Bowling Green.
Anyone ever take their z06 on a long trip? It's pretty comfy but I'm concerned about what to do if I get a flat (obviously not on runflats). Anything I need to be concerned about if I decide to take it?

Standard equipment on z06 included tire sealant and a 12v compressor. I bought a similar setup manufactured by "SLIME" at Walmart for apprx. $70. I also picked up a tire plug kit and a can of fix-a-flat. You have nothing to fear but the fear of not driving your "Z".

The basic AAA roadside service is only $50/year, and it covers any car you ever find yourself in. It's money well-spent for the peace of mind alone. And if you lock yourself out of your car, or if your battery dies, or you run out of gas, or get a flat tire... well then it just paid for itself for that year.
Only real downside is that you're SOL if you break down in an area that doesn't have cell phone service.

Bought my Z 3 years ago and drove back home 14hrs from Kentucky. It wasn't bad at all and I'm 6'3 250. AAA is a must! Saved my a$$ a couple times just this year! Well worth the couple bucks.

I did a similar trip from Austin to Ohio (right across the river from Kentucky) several years ago in a spare-less Cayman S. Had a tire plug kit, an inflator, cell phone, and roadside assistance. Getting a flat wouldn't have been fun, but the great times my wife and I had on that trip far outweigh the minute risk of a flat. I say do it!

I did the Hot Rod Power Tour in my Z06 in 2009 over 2300 mi, no issues. I did have a blow out once heading down to Williamsburg VA, called AAA and had them tow my Z to a tire shop. I have over 120k miles on my Z06.

Z=fun. little 4dr sedan-ugh. it'll be a great in the corvette, lots of pics and memories. also advice to everybody-AAA is a must for anybody really. DONT buy just the basic pkg-i think the tow limit is only 5 miles and pass that be ready to pay. i even upgraded to the 'premier' several tows of 100 miles and one 200 mile tow available.plus i added my daughter years ago as soon as she started driving.not that much more. i had my first Z in the mountains and it was fun. and a stop at the museum would be great-IN THE VETTE. cheers

I think ya'll have convinced me. Wife is totally cool with it. I'm going to pick up a tire kit before we head out to play it safe.

I bought every thing you need to plug a tire at Walmart for under $10. The one time I had to use it I noticed a screw in my tire while the car was in the garage at home. I was able to repair it without removing the wheel from the car. Just include a pair of pliers and a wire cutter in your kit. You'll know why if you have to fix a tire. I've taken many long distance trips in my Z and it only adds to the experience. You'll find with proper packing, you can carry quite a bit of stuff in the trunk and still have room to bring stuff home. From NJ, three times to BG and twice to Florida.

Drive the Vette some day you will wish you had! Like I am right now waiting for my surgery to heal. Why save the miles for someone else to use?

Id definitely say take it, one thing to consider since you are renting a cabin is the location though.
Wife and I rented a cabin in Pigeon forge TN and didnt realize the road was going to be lots of gravel and dips to get to it on top of a mountain..
Was driving a 2003 Lexus gs430 at the time, had it been lowered it would have sucked a little..

I say go for it. I've driven mine over 400 miles one way to Road Atlanta twice. And ripped through the Dragon a few times. All on R888's. I keep an inflator and slime in our cars just in case. These cars are comfy on the highway, have lots of storage space and get good MPG.
And you'll be so close to BG, you'll regret it if you don't. Just check where your cabin is, because I've stayed at a few in Pigeon Forge that had challenging driveways up the mountain for our Mini Cooper (tight switchbacks.)
