Default No more column lock issues

I started getting the dreaded column lock problem a few weeks ago so I ordered an LMC5 to fix it. Fortunately I didn't get stuck anywhere, the 4 or 5 times I got the "pull key" message, I was able to get it going by pulling the key & restarting it 5 or 6 times each time it happened. I talked to the Service Manager at my local Chevy dealer and he told me that the recall wasn't done on my car (it's a 99) & to bring it in. So they fixed it under the recall and it works great now. No more worries.

Question: Should I still install the LMC5?

I hate to break it to you but you would've been better off without the GM recall. It will fail and you will need to remove it in order to install a proper CLB in its place. I'm not sure if the LMC5 requires removal of the GM recall.

GM completely dropped the ball when it comes to C5 column lock problems and fixes.

According to Compliance Parts website, the LMC5 can be installed even if the recall has been done.

Well there you go! Then you have no problem. Just make sure you do it.

PS: if it were me, I would still remove the GM K-harness (recall). I just wouldn't like the thought of having an electronic component under my dash that will eventually fry.

I would never let the dealership do the repair to the column lock. Their fix just doesn't stand up over time. Install either the LMC5 or a column lock bypass kit and not worry about it again.
