Default let my son drive my vette

so my son came over for the weekend. he is almost 19 and is leaving for boot camp on the 30th of this month. we went to one of his buddy's house in the vette on our way to a movie. His buddy was bugging HIS dad to drive his Porsche with no wuccess. LOL so when we left, my son asked if he could drive....so I let him. he fell in love instantly .....and his friends were SO jealous! LOL
Now he wants to take it out for a night on his own ...... not a chance LOL

However, when we left the parking lot of the movie theatre (almost 1 am) it was practically empty so I told him to hold on. I backed out of the parking spot and turned the wheel (as I'm turning off the traction control) and I stomped the pedal. the car spun around like we were on ice and we took off in the same direction we originally were headed. My son was AMAZED and fell further in love with the car. I told him that he would probably never see my car do that again so cherish the moment LOL
It's nice to know the car will spin a 360 on dry pavement if needed but will probably never do it again.

My son said when he gets out in 4 yrs, he is definitely going to buy a c5!

He wont have to wait the whole 4 years. Im 3 years into my term and I got a 2000 coupe. but from another young (21) enlisted person, don't get speeding tickets, ( i got 1 as soon as another fell off my record) it adds to the insurance. and definitly no illegal racing, thats a career ender too. this car definitely has more power than my previous ones. I've fishtailed too turning onto a main road.

hopefully your son appreciates the car like you do. even though im a person who wants to race these cars and see what they can do, I appreciate mine, spending 5k this week on a new paintjob as opposed to a turbocharger. and having this car has tought me to really slow down. its one thing blending in and going as fast as everybody else. but to be going fast in a bright yellow vette with obvious mods. it can become a target for police.

and on a military note, lots of people say they only want to do 4 years, but they fall in love with the job and go the 20. tell him good luck at basic.

I'd agree with that. And pass on my thanks to him for joining the military.

I think your Vette would make a nice going away present for him.

Heck yeah! That's awesome! I actually bought my Corvette from my dad myself. Which branch is your son going in? I'm about to join the Air Force after 2 years of college.

Cool, nice story/experience.

I have no son...and there is no way in hell I'm letting either of my daughters drive my vette. Heck, they already need 4 foot long curb feelers just so they don't curb the rims on their own cars. Facepalm.

he is going into army to be an airborne ranger - he is pretty excited!

as for him being respectful, he has had a few vehicles over the three years he has been driving and he has b eat the hell out of all of them.

he doesn't keep up with maintenance at all LOL he was a "mechanical idiot" at first, but he has been working as a mechanic in a garage for the past year and has worked on a couple project cars....so he is leaning how to fix them, but he just needs to learn how to treat them so they don't fall apart LOL

with that said, I couldn't be more proud of him for finishing high school, staying out of jail, not having any kids (yet), and joining the military! if anything should happen to me, he will be my vette's new owner.

unfortunately, he has been hanging out at a local strip club and has been "going out" with a couple of strippers LOL hey, I guess I can't blame him hahahahahaha

I plan on letting him drive the vette again before boot camp

I have a similar story although mine is reversed. I let the old man drive my C5. He takes it around local but I had a spare set of keys made up just for him. He always told me to work hard and I would get it one day. So I did and got one but he deserves to drive it just as much as I do.
