Default the wife's first ride in the C5

So a while back , when I was looking at vettes, the wife was on board and said "I couldn't ride your Harley, but I can drive a vette" and I said "not if I get a standard"....she cannot drive a stick.

anyways, the one I ended up purchasing was an automatic. we never really had any other discussions about it. tonight I took her to dinner in the vette and on the way home she questioned about shifting it....and suddenly realized it was an automatic. So I offered to let her drive it on the spot, but she said another day cuzz she was tired and wouldn't fully enjoy it.
so now she wants to take the vette to a concert with her friend in Buffalo. I told her that was highly unlikely because it would be parked in general parking somewhere. LOL
then she said she wanted to take it to visit some of her patients tomorrow for work (she does occupational therapy home care)....but she drives on ****** back roads frequently as well as dirt roads. I again told her it was unlikely she would take it to those houses.

So , how do I let her drive it without getting it destroyed? I'm getting concerned now hahaha

dont' get me wrong, I don't care if she drives it as long as she treats it like a baby!

help!!!

Find a nice road on a weekend morning and switch seats on the spot.
or....
there's always the driveway!!! You could tell her she needs a Vette license.
Good luck.

I would suggest a day trip somewhere with a mapped out destination of your choice and hers. Some where in the country would be nice with a final destination at a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner, and then a return trip home...

She was on board with you buying the car - might be a good idea to not be too **** about letting her drive the car when she wants. If she has not had much (or any) experience driving a car with the capabilities of the Vette, just do like Evil-Twin suggests and get her used to it on some good roads.

Yeah - dont take this the wrong way, but it's still just a car. Let her have fun with it...may come in handy when the c7's come out and you need her support .

The fact that she couldnt tell it was an automatic for a while...scares me. The fact you bought an auto makes me think you and her are equally capable of driving it. Its a 20k dollar car at best...tell her to take it...its not an airplane.

I agree with the "it's just a plastic chevy ... " and whatever. If she wants to drive it, why not?

At times I wish my wife would give a hoot about driving it- after all, it is OURS. Then I realize I am actually elated her only desire is to be a passenger. Go figure.

LOL, I have no problem with her taking it, but I just want to make sure I get a chance to enjoy it . I see how she treats her car HA!

NONE of you were "protective" over your first vette?

granted, it's a 98 with 66k miles hahahaha

just don't want it busted up.

within a week of her getting a new 2010 Subaru, she broke the passenger mirror (fixed spelling) off (backing out of parking spot and caught a pole), put a dent right behind the driver side front tire, had a dent under front door, and a ding in the door from hitting the pole at the gas pump.

see why I worry?

I worry more about your spelling of mirror... :P. Kidding...

Just let her drive it [in an open parking with no cars, poles, etc].

Yes, yes I do- and with seemingly good reason.

I couldn't beg my wife to drive mine because she knows what it means to me . She just likes being a passenger. It might have something to do with me telling her not to move around too much on my seats because it will put wear on them .

I was about to add to this thread, but this one pretty much covers it all and how we feel.

I totally understand how you feel. Luckily my wife is very respectful of my cars and really has no desire to drive them. It may be just a piece of plastic but I work hard at making it the nicest damn piece of plastic I own and I'd like to keep it that way! Full parking lots and dirt roads ain't happinin!

My wife loves riding in it, but doesn't want to drive it. On a recent 6,500 mile cross country trip she drove it at least half the time, loved it and did great. Now that we're back home, she won't drive it.

I have no idea what you should do!
