Default summer in the south

this is my 1st summer with a c5.....anybody from the deep south got any horror stories of melting interiors or cracked dashes from sitting in the hot summer sun? Mine sees a lot of summer sun both sitting and driving.......

Get a sun screen for the windshield, and crack your windows a quarter to a half inch, and you'll be just fine...

I put a 160 degree thermostat in my car before moving to Arkansas lol. It's supposed to be 102 tomorrow! Not as hot as some places but dang that's warm lol

102 is hot but it isn't even summer yet.....wait until august! lol.. They sell a partial cover for the greenhouse area of the car that looks like it would help with the heat buildup, but with my luck it would be a ufo about the 2nd day. The windshield screen is probably the best bang for the buck. I have had several cars back in the day that could not take the sun/heat. The dash was the main victim. Maybe by 1999 they got the material a little more heat tolerant.

get a windshield cover and crack the windows like stated above. Also be careful what you use to "condition" your dash and interior parts, alot of stuff when combined with heat and sunlight will be hard on the material.

During hurricane season, June to October, it rains often (for 10 to 20 min.) and I drive in that rain also often. No biggy. Tint your windows, it helps.
And make sure your cooling system is working well.

The above suggestions are valuable. Cracking the windows is key: our cars are fairly air-tight. If you don't crack the windows, you risk having one of them blow out when the car's interior temperature climbs to excessive levels.

To those suggestions I would add the following: (1) Whenever possible, park the car so that its nose is pointed to the east. That way, the afternoon sun won't shine directly into the cockpit. And if you are parking the car near trees or other objects that will throw off afternoon shade, park the car to the east of those trees to take advantage of the shade the tree creates. (2) Tint the side and rear windows the darkest shade legally available. (3) Install a cargo cover to insure the sun doesn't fade your interior carpet. (4) If you have an FRC, Z06 or Vert, be sure to use a rear window shade. Make one if you can't find a ready-built one.

The effects of direct, hot sunlight on your car's interior may not show up for months, maybe years. It's best if you do these things now, however, while you interior still looks good, if you want to keep it that way over the long haul.

Also, that same hot sun will more rapidly dissipate the wax on your car's paint. So you should plan to wash/wax your car more frequently than at other times of year.

Those two things would go a long way to helping keep the interior temps down and to preserve your interior. Tinted windows help also and if you have a coupe with the solid top, all the better.

I feel your pain Im in the same situation. I just bought a cheap sunshade yesterday and I've been tempted to get a tint, but some reason I really like my transparent windows.

I would get a dash pad it helps protect the dash . I use a window
shade sometimes, and find some shade when you park.

only 100* with 45% humidity right now. I just throw a dash cover since the sun already attacked the HUD bezel lol.

I've never heard of windows blowing out on these cars.
My Camaro with the huge windows never had that problem either.

I should have left this in the "garage queen sees rain" thread, the weather so far has been like this more often than not:

Can't say about the Vette interior, but the 2007 Chevy truck in the driveway is never in the garage. I leave a sun shade in the windshield when parked at work, so far no noticeable sun or heat damage.

It's 96 degrees on my front porch in the shade here in LA, and probably 100+ in the sun. Supposed to hit 108 here and 115+ in the high/low desert areas this weekend.

Thank God for central A/C...
