Trade my 2005 Mustang GT for 2000 Corvette?
Hello again guys! I am really trying to find a nice corvette for a good deal (well trade)! I have come across a 2000 yellow corvette with 74k, 6 speed, excellent condition, says it needs nothing.
My mustang has 72k new tires breaks blah blah blah. Im wondering how much is his car really worth. What cash price would it likely sell at. I am pretty sure I would be good to get about 12k for my mustang. what do you guys think this corvette is worth and would you trade for it?

I don't know where you live, but in Portland OR up to Seattle a 2005 mustang gt mostly sells between 18K and up. It seems to me that you would be better off going for a 2001 vette or newer due to all the improvements. That is a nice looking vette but I think a straight trade would be lopsided toward the owner of the vette.IMHO

Nice stang, and you will love the Vette. I come from owning Mustangs my whole life, and I will not go back to a Mustang. I love them, but they are just not Corvettes. I've had a 5.0, two 4.6L, and my first car a 3.8 V6. Go for it; plus insurance is cheaper on the Vette that it is on the Stang.

I'm a 21-year Corvette owner. That being said, I really like your Mustang -- a great looking car! C5 Corvettes were produced from 1997 until 2004. If I were you, and I really wanted a C5 Vette, I'd shop some more and look for a lower-mile and perhaps newer example. (Of course, I don't know what your budget is.) C5 and C6 vehicles are very robust -- if well cared for -- so the mileage may not be a big factor.
I just 'priced' the yellow Vette using Edmunds (the most pessimistic) and Kelley Blue Book (the most optimistic). I used the mileage you stated and rated the car in 'very good' overall condition.
Edmunds, private party sale price: $9,813.00
Kelley Blue Book, private party sale price: $17,704
Yeah, I know, there's a whopping difference in price, so let's average the two -- $13,759.
When you look at the Vette, you'll know if it's been taken care of. Look especially at the driver's seat bottom cushion. Sure, it's bound to show some wear, but if it looks especially nice, that's a good sign of extra care taken by the owner. BTW, find out how many previous owners there have been. The fewer, IMHO, the better.

Summer of '10 I traded my 01 GT for my current 04 coupe. Vette had 44K, automatic, looks, drives great, no major mods and I was able to get the complete history from previous owner. I got 12K for my GT which only had 21K on it and was in superb condition. I was amazed that insurance on my Vette is LESS than I was paying on the GT. Good luck finding "your" Vette.

Good luck in whatever you decide. Overall the C5 is a very reliable platform and once you drive one, you'll notice the difference between it and the Mustang right away. Just have the car thoroughly checked out and go from there. Here's a link to a thread that may help you out when looking at the C5:

So he is saying sell the 'Stang and purchase the Vette and don't look back at the things behind!
I too would say go with the Vette, my buddy had a 2005 Vert GT 'stang and sold it and got a 2004 Vette coupe and was really happy he did - let's just say 4.8l motor in the stang to the 5.7l motor in the Vette = no comparison and more happiness!
Look to Kelly Blue Book for your pricing!
Thanks,Matt

memmer: I feel like those prices are very high for where I live. I know the kbb value is between 19-16k for my vehicle. Ive been asking 16k obo for the last few months the only thing I have gotten are trade offers. No one has even attempted to low ball me or come see it. Before I bought this car )which I actually only spent 7900 on !!) I was looking all over for the best price and I had several guys willing to sell their 05 premiums for 10k. I guess PA isnt that high of a market.
damilleniumboy: Thats what ive been told multiple times! Im excited to actually drive one.
Virtual Geezer: Yes, I have been looking for the best possible deal to trade on. Realistically I would only like an even trade or maybe add a few hundred dollars on my side (as I am 21 also!)There just isnt that many In a big radius of where I live and even fewer that want to trade.
Thanks everyone else for the replies they are all very helpful! I will certainly check this out and I will also continue to look for a newer/less milage vette.

A quick word from experience, I would buy a 2001 or sooner C5. The ETCBM is an EXTREMELY common and costly failure, and the 2001 models and newer can be repaired, whereas the 2000's and below can not.

This is not entirely true. Chuck Cow has successfully repaired one of the older EBCMs. Depending on what went wrong they do have some help available that doesn't involve a nationwide parts search.

I would be the last person to give advice. I am crazy about vettes
and if you buy one you could be too. And that's a good thing.
Good luck.
