Default Stupid steering wheel removal!!!

AHHHH! im getting freakin pissed

I cant get this thing off. I had a 3 arm gear puller that I grinded down and tried, that broke (wasnt pulling quite right though) then I bought some big J hook threaded bolt things that I cut down and made to fit...those didnt work. So I havent told me cheap *** to get out and buy the proper tool.

Went to napa and could only buy their big kit. OK. whatever. game on.

Came home went for it. I hardly applied any pressure and SNAP. there goes one of hooks snapped off.

Before I ordered the kit they said the j hooks were on back order. The kit supposedly carries a lifetime warranty. So I'll have to call them back tomorrow.

What am i doing wrong? Is there anything else I can try??? I made sure with this kit that I had everything on right, and lined up and perfectly straight. My ghetto rigging worked WAY better than the kit did!!

when i did mine, i bought the 18$ wheel puller from advance. i had to grind the heads of the bolts to make it work but it came right off without any problems and it didnt break.

advance doesnt have any wheel pullers with j hooks...they said they can get the hooks, but those alone are 20 bucks.

I apply pressure to the puller by turning the wrench, then tapping the center puller bolt with a ballpeen hammer. It works all the time on tight and/or seized steering wheels.... well mostly LOL!

that will definitly make the method i used harder if not impossible because the bolt doesn't grab on to alot, if you understand what i mean.

i think its time to get out your hacksaw and cut it off.

is there anything underneath I need to worry about? I'll try a few other things before destroying a good wheel.

any other ideas?

I have a spare wheel for sale if you end up needing one...best of luck...oh, you may have to take it to your dealer...be extra careful around that airbag and always sit sideways.

I just take mine into a dealer and have them remove it. That way if they screw it up, the tab is on them. But good luck getting your steering wheel off.

Tap it with a ruber mallet from the back side, and attempt to pull it again.

Had a local shop remove my s/w in order to swap to a momo. They said it was awfully difficult to remove. They ended up making a custom puller and was finally able to remove it. Glad I didn't try to do it myself. Good luck!

Common problem. I took mine to the Dealership to get my VE Steering wheel installed for about $100. They broke two Snap-On pullers trying to get it off (which Snap-On replaced).
