Default Inside tire wear.

Had the front tires off today to do some caliper painting and saw the insides are getting wore down fast. Cars lowered on stock bolts and previous owner had it aligned. Running 32 psi on 295/30 19 hankook ventus. Rears I just replaced, and they wore evenly. Should I stop in for a quick front end alignment?

Yeah, sounds like you should have your alignment checked if you want to maximize your tire life. Google "pfadt corvette alignment" - their basic Performance Street specs are a good guide. And you might as well have the rear checked too, while your car is on the rack.

Stock bolts should still allow you to get within specs. I'd run more PSI in them as well. Its usually best to run 5-10 under the max PSI on the side of the tire(usually 50-55) SO id run 40 to 45 in them.

What?! I think you'd have to be a little to drive with them that high. OEM spec is 30. Some tires like a little more, some like a little less, but NO tire for our car likes 40-45.

Inside wear on the front tires is somewhat normal on these cars with the factory alignment specs.

Well I'm taking a 2000 mile round trip road trip in it this weekend. Going to lower it more when I get there, so ill just wait to get a new alignment. I checked again last night and its just the very inside edge wearing. Outside looks brand new.

I would, you don't want that **** eroding while pulling 1.00+ G's daily.

Normal on Z's. I run Pfadts street/track alignment and it's way worse.
Just thru away tires that looked great from outside but cording on inside. You want to handle it comes with a price. All sports cars suffer from this

At least that's what I've been told by an alignment tech.

where are your toe and camber specs?

less than 1deg neg camber and the toe somewhere between .03 in and .00 each side up front should have virtually no tire wear unless you have worn bushings and or are driving really hard

Not according to every tire shop Ive been too. Ive been running low profile tires for 15 years and have always kept them at 10 under max PSI and have never had an issue. If you run 30 PSI in a low profile tire you're just asking for premature sidewall failure, bubbles and bent rims.

If I run my tires at anything under 40PSI the car pulls all over the road and handles terribly as well.

How low of a profile are you talking about? 20-series? The Pilot Super Sports in 305/30-19 feel great with ~31 psi cold on my 10.5" wide wheels. And that's for putting around in the city as well as tearing through the canyons. One of the guys I drive with runs the same tires with ~33 psi on 10" wide wheels. America's Tire actually wanted to inflate them to 28 front/26 rear! But anything under 30 makes them feel soft while cornering hard.

you do realize that 30 is factory spec and a lot of people have done heat testing with a pyrometer to find where maximum contact is

too much air just kills traction and reduces compliance

Ridiculous.

I do dragracing, autocross, and DE's with my ZO6 and keep it right around 30psi, except for drag. When doing AutoX and DE's, it has just the right amount of rollover meeting the triangle exactly where it should. Traction is awesome. Tires are 30 and 35 series.

I don't know what you guys are running however factory specs tend to be on the "conservative" side. Any time you increase the level of performance you have to be ready to match components for this level. Otherwise you're asking for blasting because the factory specifications simply cannot keep up with racer demand.

well for what it's worth I still got 10k out of PS2's with that alignment and always run 30psi with 18" 19" set up.

And you are saying???? You agree with the extra high pressure and no traction? Or lower pressure and better traction?

I'm running a 325/30 and a 285/30 at the moment so nothing like a 20 serries. I dont have any issues with the rear but if I dont keep the fronts at 40PSI then the car will follow the road to almost a dangerous amount.

I took the car in to get aligned and they said to keep then at 10 under the max or its going to pull all over the place because of the wide tires. To be honest though even if i keep them at 40 it still pulls so I think i'm going to have to take it back in when I can afford the Pfadt camber kit as the car wont go into factory caster specs because of how low it is.

When racing you obvioulsy want to run lower pressure that's a given, I was just talking about daily driving. Next time I take the car out i'll throw it down to 30 and see how it handles. I honestly dont have any issues with the handling or traction at 40PSI but its worth a shot.

Just saying that standard pressure settings are by design lower for street. They don't take into account balance (F/R weight distribution) or weight transfer for instance. Thus you have to compensate because otherwise the capability of the tire will be reduced.
