Do you give rides to people interested in or curious about your car? Do you wait until they ask? Is it too prideful to offer before being asked, or do you offer first because they're too timid to ask?

Do you give 'em your rules before you take off, or are people automatically respectful the first time?

What about first-time riders' reactions to that first jolt of acceleration? For example, everyone I've introduced to the sensation reacts with involuntary laughter. Do you see the same?

Have you ever given a ride to someone who was so inspired he (or she) eventually got one for himself?

I have given rides in my car before, but it more the exception than the rule. They have been very respectful of the car, being careful when entering and exiting the car and they are impressed with the car's capabilities. Haven't had someone actually go out and buy one for themselves, but I know of at least one person that is looking.

The only rides I ever offered were to my sons' friends who were already drooling at the sight of the car(s). Other than that, I cannot remember being asked for a ride by an adult, nor can I remember offering a ride to an adult.

I have to add this ...

My oldest son's friends like the '03, whereas my youngest son's friends seem to prefer the '66. My middle son's friends don't seem to care one way or the other about cars or anything that's not sports related.

What have I done wrong ???

I drive my car everyday and if i can put a smile on someone's face i will not pass up on the opportunity, if i know you can handle a manual correctly i even let some people drive it.

I work for a Danish company and they make it very clear they are interested in the car. Gas and vehicle taxes are very expensive there so they rarely have been in something really fast. So I always offer.

We are in the country a bit. Out of our plant is a straight where I usually just cruise to about 50mph. I ask them if they really want to see what it can do and as soon as I hear a yes I pop it to 2nd and take off. It gets their attention. Then there are some good turns for fun.

I once took a collegue to the near by Mc Donald's on our break from class...

He offered to buy, I wasn't hungry. We hit the drive through and headed back to school, he didn't even care to ask if he could eat in my car, he opened the bag and leaped right in.
He ate fry after fry...THEN... He proceeded to "dust" off the salt from his fingers on the floor mat by his feet.... LOL I was in such disbelief... I didn't say a word to him...

I had a dirty city worker jump in my car at the gas station when I was getting gas one time behind my back. In a real hickish accent I hear behind me "I aint nvr been in one of deez befer" scared me to death, and as you can guess, he did not get a ride lol. I've given plenty of rides to people who ask me for one though, of course being in college I have a lot more people asking me than most lol but I don't mind at all.

Ive offered and Ive been asked. I think people have a high expectation when they sit in any sports car (C5 z06). Ive gotten better reaction to the first jolt of acceleration from my ex 2004 accord v6 6speed.

It is when I take them to the mountain roads that impresses them. They expect any American car to handle like crap (and these are car guys) but when they feel how stable and capable it is. They are in joy and amazement.

Maybe I'm just getting old? But there are still guys driving stock mustang GT's that really think their car can perform with an LS1 (my car is cammed) ..I just sit back and say.. Wow...

Some local LEO's have asked for rides, and girls have asked for rides. I give both rides to keep the lines of communication open.

LEO's are car guys, the girls just look for opportunities.

I do occasionally to ones who are interested and friends who have not rode in a Vette before!

HOWEVER - I do not let them drive, at 734 RWHP it is not your usual ride or Vette!

Sure, I'll give folks a ride if they want. Good excuse the drive it. They're always very well behaved and the only "warning" I give is about the bolsters. I always ask up front if they want to feel the acceleration or not. Of course most do...

I know what you mean, my son has NO interest in vettes and my son-in-law is indifferent....makes you wonder

I already got people lined up wanting rides in my Z06, and I haven't even driven it yet. A couple want to drive it too. We'll see about that.....

I have given people rides at the track and around home. The younger teenagers like to ride in it because it is loud and gets attention. I pretty much let anyone who can handle the hd clutch drive it - but, and it is a big but, they have to leave all the nannies on.

I was the person that asked for a ride in a C4 at a grad party when I was in high school. I was all about mustangs at the time. Needless to say that all changed right then and there. I had always thought of a corvette as a dream that would never be realized back then. Now I have had 4 vettes before 30. So now I will give anyone a ride that wants it just so they can discover what I felt.

Some people from work have been in my car to go out for lunch. One of them was all about Camaro's until the ride. Now he has a C6 and plans on getting a C7.

Only family gets in the car and even that's rare. The only other exception are girls 18 and older and even that's on a rare occasion if they really really want a ride. That's just the way it is.

I baby and show the car so it makes me very nervous if someone else drives it. I can't afford the mybad I took that corner too close or I pulled up too far and cracked the spoiler...Nope

Dunno what you've done wrong. Both of my daughters love my Corvette; the youngest even helps me work on it and keep it clean. The oldest just wants me to take the top off, crank up the stereo, and step on the pedal. She loves it when I pick her up from her high school because she gets to show off to her friends.

Both of my girls are "car girls."


I'm teaching my oldest how to drive a car with a manual transmission using my Corvette. Of course this is done in empty parking lots and not on the street until she gets the hang of it a little better.
